In honor of earth month, we will be sharing mo'olelo, 'Olelo Hawai'i, hānau ka ua and anything that comes to mind that honors our 'āina.

Ua is so important to the mahi'ai. Many mahi'ai like myself rely heavily on the ua to maintain our Māla. 'Āpuakea is a general rain for Ko'olaupoko. Especially Kailua, Waimānalo and Kāne'ohe.

The story goes that 'Āpuakea rain of Ko'olaupoko was named after 'Āpuakeanui, the most beautiful woman in Kailua from the mo'olelo of the goddess Hi'iakaikapoliopele. Jealousy of this woman's beauty perhaps made Hi'iaka turn 'Āpuakeanui into rain.

So the next time ua blesses us in Kailua remember the story of Āpuakeanui and the goddess Hi'iaka 🌧🌱
