Summer dog sport recap:
We attended the West Michigan Apple Blossom Cluster in Kalamazoo, Michigan to start out the summer strong. Tupelo, Aly, and Leland all received invites to NADD regionals. Although we did not attend, it was an honor to receive invites. Tupelo had a PB of 19’0” and tried AR for the first time (she earned her regional invite for AR).
In June, we traveled to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to visit my fiancé. We attended the Oklahoma Summer Classic for some dock diving. Houston soared through the air after a long break from the sport. Tupelo earned her Dock Senior title.
The weekend before, Tupelo ran in her first flyball tournament since the puppies were born in Ionia, Michigan. She earned her Top Flight - III title. Gus tagged along and got used to the crazy loud environment. Malcolm (my sister’s dog, a Barracuda Blue son) plays with me as well and did fantastic in his first preflight.
In July, I spent more time traveling to Oklahoma City and Malcolm unfortunately got bloat. After severe complications from the initial bloat surgery, and another surgery later, he is thankfully alive. Gus finished his STAR Puppy class, but did not earn the title, as I had spent too much time traveling to be there for every class. I would say Gus was the star of the class 😉
In August, we traveled to Muskegon, Michigan to do some shed hunting. Leland is over half way to his Champion Shed Dog title. I was dogsitting Lupa and took the pups along for some more exposure.
In September, we traveled to Jefferson, Wisconsin for an extremely fun flyball tournament. Both Tupelo and Malcolm did amazing. Gus came along and he is excited to start practicing with the team. He is doing great with his fundamentals at home.
Although I wish I could’ve done more this summer, it was an extremely hectic and stressful one. Hopefully next year we can come back stronger than ever. In the meantime, you’ll catch my pack doing some of my favorite fall and winter sports — bikejoring, conformation, more shed hunting, nosework, and maybe even some skijoring since my good friend gave me some cross country skis last year.
