I stretched my legs in the show ring this month after almost a year of not showing. I brought Silo along to give some other labs a chance at competition (nobody likes to show labs in UKC 🥺) and he ended up with his final two competition wins and 20 more points! We are just 20 points away from his UKC CH. Here is my recap post from the show:

I took Silo out to play show dog in Indiana this morning.

To my surprise, we took Best Male in both shows! We ultimately lost to a pretty girl in both shows. Thank you judges Tricia Till and Karen Cattin for seeing my boy.

Congratulations Jean Ellen Freeman on getting Reserve Male and thank you for a fun and quick trip to Indiana!

It has been a busy few months! We did something on my dog sport bucket list at the end of October. We not only visited Purina Farms, but we COMPETED at Purina Farms! It was a great weekend of flyball in Missouri and an amazing first experience at Tournament of Champions. Here was my recap post from my personal page after the weekend:

What a crazy fun weekend playing flyball at Purina Farms for Tournament of Champions!

Brooke and I placed 1st in our division on Friday with our pairs team, Double Vision, with Tupelo and Roland! It was Tupe’s first pairs race ever and she did mostly well lol. There were a couple of times she thought a line judge or someone in the crowd was there to pet her (she was convinced).

Due to an unexpected family loss of a few of our team members, Tupe also had to run on a team the rest of the weekend, also for the first time ever. She did great considering it was her first time and Purina is HUGE and very loud. We had so much fun playing the Meet Me in St. Louis tournament as Hair of the Dog Can’t Hold Our Licker team!

Thank you Hair Of The Dog Flyball Club (and Jill!) for all of the support over the weekend. Between missing a few of our teammates and unexpectedly saying goodbye to a team dog on Friday, we managed to pull it together for a successful year at Champs, as Hair of the Dog took 2nd in their division. Until next year, ToC! 🎾🚦🏁

Some of you know that I had bred Tupelo in May to a Louis V son. We were very excited to carry on a piece of Louis.

Unfortunately, Tupelo resorbed her litter. There was some lingering fluid in her uterus that was concerning, so we treated her with amoxicillin to make sure pyometra didn’t form. We just finished up our third and final ultrasound and her uterus is totally back to normal!

I am bummed about the loss of the litter, but I am eternally grateful my best girl is still here with me. Pyo is a very scary infection.

We’re celebrating with a photo shoot at the cute little photo booth at our amazing vet. If anyone is looking for the BEST vet care (not just repro) in West Michigan, Family Friends Veterinary Hospital is it!

We’ll be spending the rest of the summer/year playing sports, with the main focus of flyball, and will plan to breed her again at her next heat cycle. 🍋

Last weekend, we traveled down to Indiana for some shed hunting! 🦌

Leland and Tupelo both earned their Working Shed Dog titles. Leland had a time of 3:02 and Tupe was 8:56. I moved Leland up to the Champion class the next day and he ran a 2:59, earning him 3rd place and 25 points towards his Champion Shed Dog title.

We survived our first tournament weekend… and we were officially asked to be on the team!! 💜🩵🎾

I’m so incredibly proud of Tupelo and Leland (Raleigh and Roland too) this past weekend! The dogs were great road dogs and fantastic hotel buddies — we stayed in Ohio!

I already can’t wait for the next tournament… hopefully it will be warmer 🥶 Congratulations team!!!

We went on an adventure to the east side of the state today for a shed hunt trial! 🦌

Leland took 3rd place in Working with a time of 3:17:72!! He is 4/5 towards his WSD title!

Tupelo ran a 8:19:68 and is 4/5 towards her WSD title!

Silo ran a 7:15:81 and is 4/5 towards his WSD title!

The wind made it challenging for some and easier for others depending on the time of the day you ran. It was an incredibly windy day all around. This is a challenging course and I’m so proud of my dogs for doing their best!

2 years without the one that started it all 🌈

While this isn’t a Labrador, here’s a 20 year old girl, a few months away from getting her first lab (circa 2017). A 20 year old, that is now 27 and competes in dog sports all because of the little pug in this photo. The 20 year old was once 11, 12, 13 years old and dreaming of the life that 27 year old me gets to live now.

I wouldn’t be where I am now without this little pug, Zoey. She taught me so much about dog training. She was my trick dog. My agility dog. I’d spend hours and hours in my basement training. I’d dream of becoming a YouTube sensation (lol). I always thought she was a lab in a pug’s body. We loved visiting family in Grand Haven, and also traveling up to Norton Shores to the dog beach. So, if anyone asks how I got into sports, this dog was it. I didn’t come from a parental background of dog sports or 4H. I learned on my own as I went, and I am still learning everyday. I cannot thank my swirl enough for being the best little starter dog a kid could ask for 🌀

Raising the new kiddos up to be little shed hunters 🐣

Just kidding, obviously😉 but look how stinking cute our new wee ones from Mulberry Meadow Farms are!! This is our first time buying chicks from a local reputable breeder. They are so sweet and I can’t wait to watch them grow up. We have a few older Ameraucana hens already. Two are “rescues”/re-homes and one is just from TSC. We raised a large flock of several breeds two years ago and rehomed them to our friends at Country Pawz up north in Newaygo area. We also raised Cornish hens (meat birds) along with our mixed bag flock and they were so sweet.. and so yummy.

So, meet our newest girlies! We have two Rainbow Eggers, a Polish, and a Fibrocana.

Our dogs get at least one raw egg weekly! Eggs are a great source of protein. While these babies won’t be laying during the warmer months, we will still have an abundance of eggs throughout the summer. Local pick-up or meet-up is available for fresh eggs!!
