Unlike most dog outreach organizations, we have always taken in "last resort rescue" dogs found during our visits into backyards *ourselves* vs automatic transfer to rescue-focused nonprofits. It's NOT our preference, but has resulted out of necessity to save lives. We would looooove more rescue-focused partners but everyone knows these facilities are drowning right now and adoptions are slower.
That means nonstop foster homes need to be available HERE. Right now, almost all of our fosters need a break, and we are approaching the most critical time of the season. This feels like a crisis situation.
Without availability at rescue-focused organizations, the work and burden of finding these urgent dogs homes is enormous aside from also continuing to do chained dog outreach itself.
At any given time we tend to have 10+ dogs under our care looking for homes. May not sound like a lot, but it's a huge investment in time and money.
We urgently need more fosters for LARGE breed dogs who are rescued from outside life.
These are NOT dogs who are socialized well and need separate living quarters from cats and other dogs. They are safe and friendly or we wouldn't place them into a foster household. But they still need a lot of time to decompress and acclimate.
The ๐ideal๐foster (we will accept inquiries from others but we have these preferences due to the nature of the dogs we rescue, and the track record we want to keep--avoiding dog fights--only one historically):
No cats, or ability to keep them separated into another area of the house
1-2 OR no dogs--don't inquire if you have possessive or assertive dogs.
Low key calm dogs are ideal
Patience!
A fenced, secure yard under most circumstances
Fosters should be located in Calhoun Co.
We know we are asking for exceptional situations but we refuse to place rescue dogs into knowingly risky situations. We know the dogs we rescue enough to know that they are most suited to the above conditions. When there are exceptions, we can possibly use fosters who don't meet the above criteria.
99% of the dogs we rescue are found by A.S.K. on the ends of chains and have no other options.
Send a PM to inquire.
This dog needs a HOME now, and is just one example of a dog who is more socialized than most we rescue.
