Halloween Pet Safety Tip: Please do not feed your pets Halloween candy! Chocolate and Xylitol (artificial sugar substitute) are toxic to pets of all sizes. Even “healthy treats” likes grapes and raisins are toxic to dogs. Please be sure to keep these away to prevent any kidney issues in your pets. 🍫🍬🍭

Plus, dogs may gobble up candy wrappers and all. Cellophane or foil wrappers are big trouble when swallowed.

Secret (10 years old) and Sabrina (12 years old) are half sisters and retired show dogs. As you can imagine, they've spent their fair share of time in the tub or up on the grooming table getting pampered. Even after a decade, they still need special attention and care during every groom, both to maintain their healthy skin and coat AND to tend to their senior bodies. Standing still isn't as easy as it used to be! Rest assured that even if your pet is in their golden years, Kelly will make sure their safety and comfort are always her top priorities.

Mel has been a key member of this team for 24 years and her knowledge and skill set is invaluable to our team.

Mel is the go-to-gal, the kitten guru, and the master of all skills here at VCA. If no one else can do it- you bet Mel can! But, she is so much more than that.

Mel is caring and one of the most dedicated people you’ll ever meet. She has bottle fed and raised upwards of 500 kittens in her career and has volunteered hours of time to local shelters to do so. She shows up to work every day, rain or shine and is an amazing person to work alongside. Mel is simply irreplaceable!

In preparation for this year's Vet Tech Week, we wanted to share a little snippet of our games from last year. We hosted our very own Vet Tech Olympics! Our staff split into teams to compete in multiple relays and events. A few of the skills required to win were: 1. "Pill the fractious cat" where teams had to assemble an E-collar (aka cone of shame), apply it to a member of the team, and then catch candy "pills" in their mouth 2. "Bozo Buckets" where teams had to toss ear cones into metal buckets to earn top points 3. "Catch the urine sample" where one coned team member had to squirt "urine" into another member's receptacle 4. "Emesis Whirl" where team members had to spin one member on a stool before sending them to glove up and count 10 toxic raisins out of the "vomit" The winners of our 2021 Vet Tech Olympics were Dr. McClaughry, Patti (CSR), & Alexa ( vet assistant).
