VCA County West will be CLOSED tomorrow Thursday, Nov 27th for Thanksgiving. We will resume normal hours on Friday.

Here are some Safety Tips for you and your pet:

🦃Keep the feast on the table—not under it. The famous Thanksgiving stuffing usually contains onions and scallions that can be toxic to your pet.

🦃No pie or other desserts for your pooch. Chocolate can be harmful for pets, even though many dogs find it tempting and will sniff it out and eat it. The artificial sweetener called xylitol
commonly used in gum and sugar-free baked goods – also can be deadly if consumed by dogs or cats.

🦃Put the trash away where your pets can’t find it. A turkey carcass sitting out on the carving table, or left in a trash container that is open or easily opened, could be deadly to your family pet.

🦃Be careful with decorative plants. Don’t forget that some flowers and festive plants can be toxic to pets. These include amaryllis, Baby’s Breath, Sweet William, some ferns, hydrangeas and more.

⚠️ If your pet has an emergency while we are closed, please take your pet to your nearest emergency clinic. ( call ahead ):

We are grateful for Dr. Kacey Joseph from VCA Ben White Animal Hospital sharing with Nicole Cobler about what to (and not to) give to your dog before we all gather around the table this week!

Foods loaded with seasoning, gravy or bones can cause vomiting, diarrhea and other health issues for dogs.

We could be experiencing shipping delays from our suppliers and may not always have the required products in stock due to the holiday.

Thank you for your patience and understanding 🐾❤

Meet Olaf! 🐾
He’s not just a good boy—he’s a highly trained service dog who takes his job very seriously… except when he’s striking a pose during a well-earned photo shoot. 📸😍

Service dogs like Olaf do so much more than offer comfort and companionship. They perform essential tasks that help bridge their handler’s physical limitations, allowing them greater independence in everyday life. Because of the important work they do, service dogs are legally allowed to accompany their owners anywhere they go—whether it’s a restaurant, a mall, or even a bus.

They’re not considered pets, but true working partners. And when they’re on duty, they’re all focus and commitment.

But today? Today Olaf got to show off his model side, and we think he nailed it. 💙🐶

🍽️🐾 Holiday Food & Your Pets: What’s Safe, What’s Not! 🦃🐶🐱

The holiday season is full of delicious treats — but not all of them are safe for your furry family members! At VCA, we want to help you keep your pets healthy while you celebrate. ❤️

🚫 Avoid feeding your pets:
❌ Chocolate & desserts (especially with xylitol)
❌ Turkey bones & fatty skin
❌ Onions, garlic, and chives (in stuffing & sauces)
❌ Grapes & raisins (can cause kidney failure)
❌ Alcohol & caffeinated drinks

✅ Pet-safe holiday treats (in moderation):
✔️ Plain, cooked turkey (no bones or seasoning)
✔️ Steamed carrots or green beans (no seasonings)
✔️ A small spoon of plain pumpkin (not pie filling!)

🎄 Pro tip: Set boundaries with guests who may be tempted to sneak your pet a treat under the table!

If you're ever unsure about what your pet can eat, give us a call — we're here to help keep the season happy and safe! 🐾

November 18th is National Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP) Awareness, Research and Education Day.

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is an important disease of domestic cats. It occurs worldwide in cats of all ages, but the disease is most common in young cats less than two years of age.
FIP is associated with a viral infection called feline coronavirus. There are many different strains of feline coronavirus, which differ in their ability to cause disease.

💙 November is Canine Diabetes Awareness Month 💙

Our dogs bring us endless joy — those morning tail wags, excited greetings, and quiet cuddles at the end of the day. But just like people, dogs can develop diabetes, and awareness can make all the difference in catching it early. 🐾

Canine diabetes happens when a dog’s body can’t properly produce or use insulin. With the right care, dogs with diabetes can still live long, happy, love-filled lives — but early detection is key.

💡 Know the signs:

Excessive thirst or urination

Increased hunger but weight loss

Cloudy eyes or sudden vision changes

Lethargy or changes in energy

If you notice these changes, talk to your veterinarian. A simple blood or urine test can reveal a lot — and starting treatment early can truly change your dog’s future.

Today, we celebrate the warriors living with diabetes, the families managing it with love, and the veterinary teams who support them every step of the way. 💙

Let’s spread awareness, share stories, and remind every pet parent that diabetes isn’t a life sentence — it’s a journey of care, courage, and love.

At VCA, we believe kindness isn’t just something we show to people — it’s something we share with every living being. 💕

Whether it’s a gentle pat for a nervous pup, an extra cuddle for a recovering cat, or a smile for a worried pet parent — kindness is the heartbeat of what we do.

Today, on World Kindness Day, we celebrate all the small, quiet acts that make a big difference:
✨ Adopting a senior pet
✨ Donating to a local rescue
✨ Checking in on a friend who’s lost a furry companion
✨ Practicing patience and compassion — even on the tough days

Every act of kindness — no matter how small — creates ripples of love that reach far beyond what we can see. 💛

Let’s make the world a little softer, a little brighter, and a lot more kind — one paw, one person, one moment at a time. 🐾

🍂 Poppy the Frenchie stopped by for her fall bath with Danielle — and she was full of wiggles and giggles! 🛁🐾

There’s nothing like a fresh, clean coat to kick off the cozy season. Regular grooming not only keeps your pet looking (and smelling!) their best, but it also helps us spot any skin changes that can pop up with the cooler weather.

If your furry friend could use a little pampering this fall, give us a call — we’ll make sure they leave as happy as Poppy! ❤️
