🐸 Meet Mustard, our Pac-Man Frog patient! 🐸
Mustard came in for some advanced imaging — both x-rays and an ultrasound — to help us check on his health. Exotic pets like frogs require the same level of specialized care as cats and dogs, and diagnostic imaging lets us look closely at their bones and internal organs.
🔎 About Pac-Man Frogs (Ceratophrys ornata):
They get their name because of their round shape and huge mouths, resembling the Pac-Man video game character.
Pac-Man frogs are sit-and-wait predators, staying perfectly still until prey comes close enough, then striking in an instant.
They can eat insects, small rodents, and even other frogs!
With proper care, they can live 10–15 years in captivity.
Though small in size, they have a strong bite and powerful jaws.
🐸 Amphibians like Pac-Man frogs have permeable skin, which means they can easily absorb substances from their environment, including water, chemicals, and even the oils, lotions, or residues on human hands.
That’s why handling should be kept to a minimum and always done with clean, wet (dechlorinated) hands or gloves. It helps protect the frog’s delicate skin and overall health.
We’re always excited to see exotic pets like Mustard — every patient teaches us something new and keeps our work fascinating. 💚
