Cultivate Kansas City is a locally-grown nonprofit working to grow food, farms, and community in support of an equitable, sustainable and healthy local food system for all. We believe a strong local food system with more residents participating in, growing, selling, and eating local food equates to a better nourished and stronger city. Our programs support local farmers and urban agriculture, redu

ce hunger in our communities as well as improve public health and economic and environmental sustainability.

Cultivate KC is thrilled to share that our Regional Conservation Partnership Program proposal “Expanding Climate Resilience Resources and Land Access for Urban Growers in the Kansas City Metro Area” was awarded by USDA last week.

In partnership with USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service and twelve collaborating organizations, this project will invest nearly $6.5 million over five years directly with Kansas City-area growers to implement conservation practices and secure agricultural conservation easements for long-term land protection. This is a huge win for Kansas City-area farmers and gardeners that we hope will make a transformative impact on our city for years to come. Thanks to KCTV5 News Kansas City for sharing this story!

The USDA has awarded more than $6.4 million to Cultivate KC for conservation efforts and climate-safe agriculture practices. The funding will help its urban farmers implement environmentally safe practices like building soil health with compost and row covers.

Brien's Grand Canyon hike is THIS SUNDAY! Cultivate KC was selected as one of the Kansas City-based non-profits to receive $5,000 of funding from the Kansas City CROP Hunger Walk team, because of the role we play in addressing hunger relief and food access for our community.

We have programs that increase food access in traditional ways, but we also address hunger relief and food access by ensuring that our community has a strong supply of locally grown food, and that means focusing our efforts on the needs of the farmer.

p.s. Please enjoy these FUN photo memories from the past, from Brien's earliest trips to the Grand Canyon, when she was a guide assisting her high school’s wilderness program!

Thank you to everyone who has sent well wishes for Brien's upcoming hike in the Grand Canyon with Dr. Paul Chan and his CROP Hunger Walk team! We know you care a great deal about addressing hunger right here in Kansas City. It's our hope that you will step up to the challenge to match the $5,000 that is being raised on Cultivate KC's behalf.

Cultivate KC approaches hunger relief by increasing access to fruits and vegetables for populations who might otherwise not be able to choose these items for themselves and their families. In the ever-inspiring words of Dr. Vandana Shiva, “a society that cannot feed its people cannot sustain itself.”
