Cultivate Kansas City is a locally-grown nonprofit working to grow food, farms, and community in support of an equitable, sustainable and healthy local food system for all. We believe a strong local food system with more residents participating in, growing, selling, and eating local food equates to a better nourished and stronger city. Yesterday, Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas, a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, visited our Juniper Gardens Training Farm, home of the New Roots program. Thanks to Senator Marshall and his team for taking time to hear stories about the important impact of federal investments in local food systems from our partners at The Kansas City Food Hub, KC Farm School at Gibbs Road, JET Produce And MeatsJ, and New Roots.

We hope that the next farm bill will continue to invest in programs like Local Food Purchase Assistance and Double Up Food Bucks that get more healthy, local food onto the tables of those who need it most and strengthen local agriculture businesses.

According to the USDA NIFA, an estimated 70% of U.S. farmland will change hands in the next 20 years. However, many family operations may not have a next-generation willing or skilled enough to continue farming. Farm succession planning can help ensure that the transition of ownership, land stewardship practices, and business assets occurs as intended in the hands of another farmer or rancher.

Join us for the first event in our Farm Transitions & Succession Plan Listening & Learning series, hosted by Cultivate KC and KC F.A.R.M.E.R.S. Coalition. Whether you're planning to retire, looking to sell or rent your land, or seeking new opportunities to buy or lease farmland, this event is for you!

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Date: Tuesday, August 20
โฐ Time: 1:00 - 3:30 PM
๐Ÿ“ Location: Anita B. Gorman Conservation Discovery Center
๐Ÿฝ๏ธ Light refreshments provided

With the right resources and conversations, you can ensure your farm's legacy continues. Donโ€™t miss this opportunity to connect and start planning for the future.

Sophia Ong, who served as a K-State Local Food Fellow with our team this summer, has finished up a price data collection project across farmers' markets in the Kansas City Metro area. She collected prices at nineteen different markets four times each throughout the summer. She has posted her second set of downloadable data here: https://www.cultivatekc.org/kc-farmers-market-july-pricing/

We really enjoyed working with Sophia this summer and know this data will be helpful for area farmers!
