Today we're taking care of a father-daughter duo of Basenjis! Meet Schnitzel and Sookie, both retired show dogs!

Have you heard of the Basenji? Also known as the barkless breed, but don't let that fool you - they vocalize in other ways, like chortling and yodeling! An ancient breed coming from central Africa, these guys were bred for hunting and were prized by African tribesmen for their versatility and overall excellent hunting abilities. They were brought up the Nile river and gifted to pharaohs of ancient Egypt, which is why you can find depictions of the breed in ancient Egyptian artifacts! Paleontologists tell that the first domesticated dogs looked a lot like them. They're easy to spot when you see those tight curly tails, almond eyes and adorable forehead wrinkles!

We love getting to work with such unique, uncommon breeds and can't wait to see these babies again! 🩷🐾
