Introducing our staff member Xaire! Xaire grew up in Wyandotte Ks and graduated from Platt County High School in 2020.

Xaire is currently going to school at KCKCC for Sociology and Cosmetology. Xaire also started the dance team at kckcc and is their choreographer.

Happy May Day Friends! We wanted to introduce you to one of our new employees Amorita. Amorita grew up in Kansas City MO, and graduated from North East in 2010
In her spare time she enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her daughter and family and creatures.
Amorita has 5 wonderful fur kids, 2 labs named Shadow and Sierria, a Papillon named Sassy, a chihuahua named Sadie and a cat named Stella.

Meet Mama Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Mama is a 10 year old Spayed Pit Bull that wanted to remind everyone to make sure to remember to apply your monthly flea/tick preventatives. We are actively seeing both fleas and ticks on our patients right now and do not want to see development of new disease carried by these insects. Do not hesitate to call if you need some from us.

Meet Murphy Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Murphy is a 9 year old Neutered Labradoodle. Murphy wanted to let all of our pet parents know that Lipomas also known as fatty tumors are benign (non-spreading), slow growing, non-painful growths found commonly in any middle aged to older dogs. If your pet develops a new growth please have it checked, but understand that not all new growths, even those that grow are harmful for your pet.

Meet Chili Pepper Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Chili Pepper is a 13 year old Spayed Chihuahua that came for her annual check up earlier this week. Chihuahuas, like other toy and small breed dogs can develop dental disease at a very young age and need regular checkups. Happy weekend friends.

Meet Elwood Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Elwood is an 11 year-old male Boxer that was in for cough last week. We commonly vaccinate against a bacteria called Bordetella bronchiseptica. Bordetella bronchiseptica is the primary pathogen we are vaccinated against for kennel cough. Kennel cough is a complex condition that can consist of not only Bordetella but other types of bacteria and most commonly viruses, similar to human beings getting a common cold. Kennel cough does not necessarily require contact with another pet to contract. Kennel cough is a common condition and can become very severe if not diagnosed and treated properly causing pneumonia and in some cases death. We highly recommend vaccinating your pet even if they do not routinely board or groom.

Meet Junie Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Junie is a 10-week-old female Holland Lop that will be coming to see us in the next few months for her spay. Holland lop rabbits have floppy ears naturally. Fun fact of the day. Rabbits have a large well-developed organ called the Cecum (similar to the human appendix) that is where a large part of their digestion occurs. The cecum is what help rabbits digest hay and other high fiber contents of their diet.

Meet Vinny Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Vinny is a 19 week old male Dumbo that we saw a couple of weeks ago. Vinny wanted to remind anyone with pocket pets to have them come see us for their annual check ups. Although we do not currently vaccinate rodents, we still need to make sure they are healthy.

Meet Rollie Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Rollie is a 16 week old Male Puggle that came to see us for his first check up last week. It is important for new pets of all ages to get a screening exam when they first come to your home. This exam allows us to develop a relationship for future care and to ensure they are healthy and safe for your other pets and home.

Meet Sage and is bonded mate named Dolly Our Featured Pets Of The Day!!. Sage is a 1 year old neutered guinea pig. Dolly was recently adopted and Sage could not be happier. Guinea Pigs are herd animals and thrive when in a group. We are so happy Dolly has a caring family and their herd is growing.

Meet Abbey (left) and Sasha (right) Our Featured Pets Of The Day!! Abbey is a 5 year old spayed Beagle and Sasha is a 4 year old spayed Beagle. Beagles are great companions but tend to be prone to Back/neck disease, epilepsy, and allergies/ear infections. These girls have such a loving family and are a pleasure to visit with and care for!!

Meet Tuxedo Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Tuxedo is a 2 year old male standard rat that we have been treating for months with Bumble foot. Bumble foot is a skin infection that can affect the feet of small mammals. We recently had to amputate his left back leg due to joint damage from his condition. He is now doing much better and getting around remarkably well on three legs.

Meet Rocky Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Rocky is a 3 year old Neutered Golden Retriever with a color pattern on his nose called snow nose or Dudley nose. This is a non-harmful condition that some dogs get where they loose pigment in there nose either permanently (Dudley nose) or seasonally (snow nose). Meet Rosebud Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Rosebud is a 14 week female Maine C**n Mix. Rosebud wanted to share a fun fact about calico cats. The male gender is rare in calico cats and when they do occur they are almost exclusively sterile (unable to reproduce). Happy Saturday Friends!

Meet Bogey Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Bogey is an almost 6 year old neutered Ocicat. Bogey wanted to share a fun fact about cats. Cats have spicules on there tongue that help with grooming, but make their tongue feel rough when they kiss and clean you. Happy Weekend Friends

Meet Lucy Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Lucy is a 9 and a 1/2 year old spayed Great Dane with a really sweet personality. Here is Lucy's Fun Vet Fact for today - the most common cause of arthritis is dogs is joint trauma, which generally shows up in older pets. We recommend starting your pet on joint supplements before they have difficulty getting around. Starting early helps improve the success rate of slowing the formation of arthritis and improving mobility for your pet.

Meet Rocco Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Rocco is a 9 year old Wheaten Terrier. Rocco wanted to let everyone know that if you travel with your pet during the holidays you may need to have a health certificate along with your Rabies certificate for pet travel documentation. We can provide this service for you. We do recommend calling ahead so that we can verify if you do need a health certificate or if there are other requirements set by the site of travel destination (where you are going state or country).

Meet Hazel Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Hazel is a 3 year old Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier. She wanted to share some of the most common causes of ear infections in dogs. Allergies both environmental and food related is the most common cause for ear infections in dogs and cats. Ear Mites and The shape of the ear (floppy ears vs. ears that stand on their own) also contribute as causes for ear infections. Meet Henry Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Henry is a 6 month old neutered Lhasa Apso. He wanted to let our friends know that it takes a heartworm 7 months to develop into an adult heartworm and therefore it is important to have any pet tested annually if they are 7 month of age or older. We encourage owners to start preventing at 8 weeks of age in puppies in order to prevent the development of adult heartworms. For more information visit the American Heartworm Association website.

Meet Lexi Our Featured Pet Of The Day!! Lexi is a 1 year old spayed Maine C**n Mix. Lexi is happy and healthy but wanted her feline lovers know that Maine C**n cats are more prone than the average cat to heart disease specifically a type that causes the chambers of the heart to be more narrow than normal and thus causing less blood to fill with each pump. If you have a Maine C**n or Maine C**n mix think about having your cat screened for this type of heart disease by having us perform a blood test called a feline cardiac BNP. Happy Tuesday Friends!
