Do you know how important your pet's dental health is? Bacteria builds up in the mouth and binds with food particles to form plaque. Then the plaque will harden into tartar. The bacteria then makes its way under the gumline, causing gingivitis, swelling, and redness. Then eventually, this all can start eating away at your pet's teeth and gums. If left untreated, the bacteria can make its way into the bloodstream, causing heart, kidney, and/or liver disease. This is why an annual prophylaxis (an attempt to prevent disease) is so important!

Here at Platte Woods Animal Hospital, we take your pet's dental health very seriously. We have a state of the art dental x- ray machine so that we can see under the gumline and make sure that those roots are happy and healthy! We also have the same type of dental machine that you see at your dentist! Scaling, polishing, and dental x- rays are standard with every dental procedure!
Make sure to ask your vet about your pet's teeth at your next appointment!

If you get the pre operative blood work within 30 days of the dental, you will get 10% off of the scaling and polishing, as well as any extractions that are required!

We are a proudly family-owned companion animal hospital located in north Kansas City that has been serving the northland since 1971. Platte Woods Animal Hospital is currently a 4 doctor practice with longstanding practice & medical management. We are seeking a full-time and/or part-time associate veterinarian. We are a rapidly growing practice within an economically mature region of Kansas City with an established clientele and ideal location along a major highway.

PWAH provides wellness/preventive care, surgery (soft and hard tissue), dentistry (including dental radiography), imaging, hospitalization (with several options for overnight referral if necessary), and boarding. Our medical amenities include a state of the art facility that was constructed in 2017, Daysmart Vet software with access anywhere with an internet connection, 3:1 technician/doctor ratio, brand new DR radiography and ultrasonography equipment from SOUND Imaging with Antech Imaging Services capability, DR dental radiography, electrocautery, blood transfusion capability, and cold laser. Fireworks season is upon us and a lot of our pets get very nervous at this time. If your pet gets anxious with the fireworks, please call us as soon as possible to get any medications necessary. The sooner the better!

Good morning everyone! We just wanted to let you all know that the heat index has the possibility of going up to 105 degrees on Thursday. Please keep your pets indoors and only take them out to use the bathroom. Make sure water is available to them, and if you walk them, please make sure to walk them on the grass and not the pavement. Also, please do not leave your dogs in the car unless the AC is on. Let's keep those babies healthy this summer!

It's baby season! We have had a LOT of animals dumped at our doors recently. Please note: We are not accepting strays!

You may see a lot of baby squirrels, raccoons, kitties etc! If you do see any animal other than a cat or dog please call the business below for help. If you do find a stray dog or cat you can call us to scan for a microchip or any shelter/hospital in the area. There are some options listed below.

When it comes to baby wild animals, the best option is to leave them where they are, do not feed them and call a conservationist. Helping wildlife requires a special license which we do not have and we are not equipped to handle these cases.

It's heartworm awareness month!

At PWAH, we test dogs for heartworm annually and urge our clients to use heartworm prevention year round! Heartworm disease is spread by mosquitos and if not treated, is fatal.

PWAH offers some wonderful ways to make sure you keep your pet safe from heartworm.

Proheart is an annual injection that protects against heartworm disease. This injection has been tested thoroughly and boasts 100% protection!

Nexgard Plus is a new product here at PWAH and it is a monthly chew that covers heartworm, fleas and ticks and is a dewormer! We have many rebates going on until May 1st!

Did you know that cats can also get heartworm disease?

Nexgard Combo is for our kitty friends! This protects against heartworm and fleas and ticks!

PWAH family! We need your help! We have a four legged friend here who needs a home! This is Natasha. Natasha is very good with people but will need to be an only pet as she does not get along with other animals. She is 7 years old, spayed, and up to date on all vaccines! Natasha loves her lambchop toy and to play fetch! She is also always up for some good scratches or a frozen kong!
