๐๐พ Holiday Pet Safety Tips for the Festive Season! ๐พ๐
Just a friendly reminder we will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24th and Wednesday Dec. 25th. We hope that you have a safe and happy holiday season!
'Tis the season for food, family, and fun festivities โ and we know our fur babies join in on the fun as members of the family! Here are some friendly tips to keep their pawliday season healthy and safe:
1. Keep That Turkey and Ham Out of Reach! ๐ฆ โ The skin, bones, and savory seasonings can upset petsโ stomachs and lead to serious health issues. Make sure trash is secure to prevent curious paws from sneaking leftovers.
2. Beware of Dangerous Sides ๐ฅฎ โ Stuffing, mashed potatoes, and other rich sides often have garlic, onions, raisins, and other ingredients harmful to our furry friends. Keep a safe snack stash for them, like pet-safe veggies!
3. Mind the Sweet Stuff ๐ฐ โ Pies and treats made with chocolate, xylitol, or certain nuts can be toxic to pets. Drinks can also contain dangers, such as coffee or alcohol.
4. Be Cautious with Decorations and Plants๐โ Tinsel, ornaments, strings of lights, and dreidels can pose choking or injury hazards. Holiday plants like poinsettias, holly, and mistletoe are toxic to your fur baby if ingested.
5. Watch the Door๐ชโ With guests coming and going, pets may try to make a dash outside. Make sure theyโre safely secured or have an updated microchip! If your fur baby is nervous with company, keep them in a safe and confined space with some of their favorite comforting toys.
6. Skip the Fireworks ๐ โ The loud booms and bright lights can scare your pet, but we can help! Call our office 816-931-4930 to discuss calming medications to ease their evenings when neighbors choose to take part in loud festivities.
We hope you find these tips helpful to create a safe and fun season. Your team at Union Hill Animal Hospital wishes you and your furry family member a joyful holiday season!๐
