It's foxtail season! This common grass can cause a slew of issues for humans and animals, though dogs seem to be their primary victims. Foxtails have barb-like heads that will burrow into your pet. They can be swallowed, inhaled, and even pe*****te the skin. Not only is this uncomfortable, but it can cause life-threatening abscesses and infections.

If you’ve been out and about, it’s always a good idea to check your pet for any injuries – and, as always, call your veterinarian with any questions or concerns.

The shelter is inundated with owner turn in and strays. THERE IS NO ROOM! It is an open intake shelter and required to take in all animals . These dogs have been there the longest and may need to be an only dog. If you can help, call the shelter 910 862 6918 BUT DO NOT CALL TO GIVE STAFF A HARD TIME> They will be devastated if forced to euthanize. THERE IS JUST NO ROOM

**7/26/22 UPDATE!!** Bennitt is being loved on and spoiled, just as it should be! Thank you for caring about this sweet boy who, despite many ongoing health challenges, is a happy senior fellow! Please see the comments for a precious new picture!

Bennitt’s story is heartbreaking.

This sweet Shih Tzu is a distinguished older gentleman who had a mom, a distinguished senior herself. Recently, she had a terrible fall, has a long road to recovery, and will no longer be able to care for him. So she made the hardest decision out of the purest love. She surrendered him to Angels.

But there’s so much more to his story. Because he’s a senior, he has some significant health problems, too. Due to chronic skin issues, he will need monthly injections for life, antibiotics, medicated shampoo, and spray. He also has chronic ear infections and needs to have rotting teeth pulled to prevent further damage to his jaw. In addition, Bennitt has a heart murmur that is being evaluated, and he has some a**l gland issues that are probably chronic as well.

His care will be expensive. We know that. But we promised his mom we would take good care of him, and we will. Will you help us keep that promise? He’s a good boy and deserves to live his twilight years in comfort, being loved on and pampered.

Hi my name is Dakota and I'm looking for a forever home. My foster mommy says it would be best if I were the only fur baby in the home until I get some proper training. I'm 2 years old and smart but stubborn. I know basic commands and I love to play ball and go for walks. I'm very good on the leash, I still pull a little but I'm doing better. I like to have my big marrow bone friends, they're my favorite! I would probably be good with children I just haven't learned not to jump so much. But I'd sure love someone to take me out and play ball. If you think I'd make a good addition to your family please let my foster mommy know. 9 years ago today this little/big girl rescued me as soon as I walked into the Kansas City animal shelter we connected eyes and that was all it took best Mother's Day present of all. I love my Minka. Happy Mother's Day to everyone.
