🥳193 ANIMALS VACCINATED & MICROCHIPPED🥳

Kansas City residents SHOWED UP for yesterday’s vaccine and microchip clinic sponsored by Subaru of Olathe and the ASPCA !!!

77 more vouchers were handed out to pet owners that will come in the coming weeks to get their pets vaccinated and microchipped as well.

We are thrilled to know over 200 local animals are now vaccinated and microchipped!👏

HUGE 📣shoutout📣 to our small but MIGHTY medical team that managed to pull off this super successful event.

“We are honored to be able to provide this service to the pets in our city. It is evident by the amount of pets served that our work is far from over. We know access to affordable veterinary care is an absolute necessity for our community, and will be working diligently to bring more resources to pet owners to keep their pets healthy and happy in their homes, where they belong.”

⚠️DOGS SAVED FROM HURRICANE HELENE⚠️
The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City (HSGKC) has joined forces with The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS), Pilots To The Rescue (PTTR), and multiple North Carolina shelters to help animals impacted by Hurricane Helene. In this rescue effort, HSGKC has taken in 22 dogs from shelters that were either flooded or overwhelmed by stray animals following the storm.

These animals were already in the care of shelters affected by Hurricane Helene when the storm caused severe flooding and overcrowding. The goal of this initiative aims to alleviate the burden on these shelters, provide essential care for the animals, and ensure they find loving homes here in Kansas City.

PTTR played a crucial role in the mission, transporting the dogs on the first leg of the 20-hour trip. The Kentucky Humane Societygraciously opened their doors for an overnight stay where the dogs were able to stretch their legs, eat and relax. HSGKC members met the animals in Kentucky and drove them back to our shelter in Kansas City, KC.

“Rescue efforts like this are crucial for helping the most vulnerable animals in times of crisis,” said Sydney Mollentine, CEO of The Humane Society of Greater Kansas City. “By taking in animals already in the shelters, we make space for the influx of strays caused by the storm, giving all pets a greater chance of survival and reunification with their owners displaced by the hurricane.”

Upon arrival at HSGKC, all 22 dogs will undergo thorough medical evaluations and veterinary care. Once cleared, the animals will be available for adoption. HSGKC encourages the community to open their hearts and homes to these pets in need.

“While this is a labor of love, rescue missions like this also come with additional costs, and we are grateful for the generosity of our supporters who help us continue these lifesaving efforts, added Mollentine.

To support this initiative, HSGKC is accepting donations to cover medical care, transportation, and housing for the rescued animals. Every contribution will directly impact the well-being of these dogs and help them begin their new lives.

We’d like to introduce you to our newest additions, the Marvelous Ten. 🩷
These sweet babes were dumped in KCK — left to care for themselves. When two of our amazing team members were on their way back from lunch they found them.
At our organization, we don’t just leave needy pups on the side of the road. They quickly sprang into action, loading ALL TEN of them in their car and brought them back to the shelter.

They are safe, spoiled, and getting allllll the love here until they find their new forever homes.

Our largest fundraiser of the year is this week. This fundraiser is vital to the success of our shelter and clinic, allowing us to say “yes” when others have to say “no”. Because of YOUR support, these 10 precious pups are safe.

Daniella has been absolutely instrumental in the success of our shelter adoption program, and we're beyond proud to announce that her hard work has just been recognized with the *Innovation of the Year* award at the Midwest Animal Sheltering Conference!🏆

Over the past four years, Daniella has dedicated herself to overhauling and improving our shelter, reducing barriers, and focusing on enhancing the lives of both pets and their pet parents. Her vision and commitment have truly transformed the way we approach animal welfare in our shelter.

We’re also thrilled to share that Daniella has stepped into an exciting new role as our Community Equity & Engagement Director. In this role, she’ll continue to evaluate and develop programs that better serve our community and the incredible people and pets within it.

We are heartbroken to say one of the puppies did not survive as the virus wreaked havoc on her little body. 💔 BUT, her siblings pulled through with flying colors and are now ready for adoption! Summer is winding down, Fall is around the corner. Morris says that there is still plenty of time to roll around in the late summer sunshine with a toy. Morris came to us through our Outreach team where he was living on a chain in the backyard with a broken leg. Our vet team tried to save his broken leg, but it was to damaged to save. That hasn't stopped Morris from running, jumping, taking walks and convincing you that he needs another treat. Morris is looking for his forever home. Due to living in a backyard on a chain, he isn't trusting of other dogs. He would be happy as the only pet in the home. This way he has all of your attention.
