Carnivores: diet consisting highly of animal protein and fat. All snakes are carnivores, their diet will mostly consist of mice and rats when they are raised in captivity.

When feeding snakes, they should never be hand fed. This can inadvertently lead to the snake striking at the hand. They should instead be offered with tongs.

What is an insectivore?

You've probably heard of herbivore, omnivore, and carnivore before but insectivore? This is a diet that consists completely or partly of insects. Animals that fall into this category are amphibians, some turtles and snakes, and a great number of lizards.

When feeding insects to reptiles, it is important to offer "gut-loaded" or calcium dusted insects. Insects are very high in protein on their own but they do not contain enough calcium to support the needs of the lizard they are being fed to.

🚨HEAT STROKE WARNING FOR PETS🚨

With today's temperatures soaring into the 90s, we are urging every pet owner to please KEEP YOUR PETS INSIDE. This Friday we treated our first pet for heat stroke when KCK Animal Services brought us a pup that suffered heat exhaustion the day prior when she was found running at large. Luckily this sweet pup will be just fine, but it could have been much worse.

Act now to protect your pets from heat stroke by reaching out to our outreach team at [email protected] for resources, we are here to help! And if you see a pet in need of assistance do not hesitate to call your local animal control! Together, we can save lives this summer.

The summer is coming! We are already having some very hot days. Are your pets prepared? 🥵

Here are some tips to help keep your pets safe in the hot weather. 😁

- Make sure they have access to plenty of water throughout the day.
- Never leave pets alone in a parked car.
- Do not leave pets unattended by pools or lakes. Please make sure they have access to fresh water and do not allow them to drink pool water or water from lakes/ponds/oceans.
- Be aware of the temperature of the pavement if taking pets on walks. Don't linger on hot pavement. This can lead to their paw pads burning.
- Limit exercise on hot days.
- Pets with flatter faces such as pugs, bull dogs, and frenchies cannot cool themselves as effectively and have a higher risk of heat stroke.

When adopting a new cat, remember that cats are territorial. If you already have a cat, create a safe space for each cat in your home during the initial period. Choose an area for your new cat for essentials such as perches, cat beds, litter boxes, food, and water. Learn more at https://bit.ly/3CZJV4y.

Today's the day!!

If your dog is afraid of fireworks be sure to call us soon to get a refill of their Trazodone and/or Gabapentin! Please don't wait for the last minute as we may not be able to get your script filled on time.

Fireworks are very scary for our friends. They do not always understand what is going on with the loud noises. If this is your first 4th of July with your pet and your aren't sure how they will handle the festivities, call us and we can discuss this.
