Happy Foster Friday from Radley who was a perfect angel on the news this morning!! Radley was featured on KCTV5 News Kansas City's My KC Live show as this weeks Furever Home Friday pick.

Although Radley is now thriving in a foster home, his journey with KC Pet Project started when he was found chained up with no food, no water, and no escape from the below-zero temperatures we faced in February. But now, he’s experiencing love, warmth, and the joys of being a dog for the first time.

Since moving into his foster home, Radley has discovered some of his favorite things: peanut butter, squeaky toys (especially when he gets to destroy them), and snuggling on the couch. He’s gained almost 10 pounds and never turns down a snack! Despite the neglect he endured, he holds no grudges—just a heart full of love and a need for belly rubs.

Radley is still working on potty training and does well with a doggy door, though he sometimes has accidents when left alone. He’s also undergoing treatment for heartworm but is handling it like a champ!

Like all our adoptable dogs, Radley would love to meet any potential canine siblings first to ensure it’s a great match. We are happy to share that as Radley has opened up in his foster home, he has begun to play with the resident dogs!

He is also up-to-date on vaccinations, neutered, and microchipped—ready to find the family who will love him as much as he will love them. ❤️

If you’d like to meet Radley, email [email protected] today!

Thanks to our amazing community, we were able to go nearly a full month without an adoption special—something that hasn’t happened in a very long time! But as intake numbers continue to climb and adoptions have slowed, we’re once again filling up.

To help more pets find loving homes, we’re offering a special adoption event this weekend! From Friday, March 28th through Sunday, March 30th, all dogs 30 pounds or more and all adult cats will be just $30 to adopt at the KC Campus for Animal Care, Zona Rosa Adoption Center, Petco Adoption Center (cats only), and from foster homes.

Every adoption makes a difference. Let’s work together to find homes for as many pets as possible and keep kennels open for those who need us most. Spread the word, stop by, and help us make this weekend a life-saving success! 💙🐶🐱

Each year, thousands of pets enter our shelter—and in a typical year, 20% of them are surrendered by their owners. We understand that rehoming a pet is a deeply emotional decision, and at KC Pet Project, we want to ensure that pets and their people have the resources and support they need during this difficult time.

If you’re no longer able to care for your pet, rehoming them privately may be the best option. Not only can it help prevent your pet from experiencing the stress of a shelter environment, but it also gives you the peace of mind of knowing where they’re going. Reaching out to friends, family, or community groups is a great place to start. You can also list your pet on our rehoming page, where potential adopters are actively looking to welcome a new companion into their home.

Visit KCPetProject.org/Services/Rehoming-Support to learn more and get tips on how to rehome your pet responsibly—because you are your pet’s best advocate.

It’s , and today we’re celebrating the healing power of a loving foster home by spotlighting one very special pup — Slim Shady 💚

Slim Shady came to KC Pet Project in heartbreaking condition. He was found abandoned in an apartment with no food or water, emaciated and alone. Despite the trauma he’s endured, Slim has shown nothing but love and trust toward people — all he wants is affection and a cozy place to rest his head.

Now, this calm and gentle boy is thriving in his foster home. He’s been a 10/10 good boy and gets along beautifully with the resident dogs and cats. He loves to snuggle, enjoys the comforts of home, and is slowly gaining weight under the watchful eye of his foster family. Slim Shady is currently on a medical hold while he continues to recover and awaits a cardiac ultrasound to check for possible heart disease. But his spirit? Stronger than ever.

While Slim isn’t ready for adoption just yet, we want to take a moment to thank the incredible fosters who open their homes — and hearts — to animals who need time, healing, and a little extra care before they’re ready for their perfect families. Your kindness changes lives.

Stay tuned for updates on when Slim Shady will be available for adoption. We just know this sweet, soulful boy is going to make someone very, very happy. 🐾

03/20/2025

Just a reminder that KC Pet Project's Friendly Finder program is in full swing and we need your help to spread the word! 🐾 This lifesaving initiative allows people who find a lost pet to keep the animal in their home during the 5-day stray hold instead of bringing them to the shelter. It’s more comfortable for the pet, increases the chances of reuniting them with their family, and helps keep vital space open at our shelter.

If you or someone you know finds a stray dog, you can be a Friendly Finder! Our Pet Support team will guide you through every step, and after the 5-day hold, you can adopt, continue fostering, or bring the pet to our shelter. Either way, you’ll be making a huge difference for that animal and your community.

We know this program has the potential to grow and save more lives — and we need your help to get the word out. 💚 Please share this post and help us make sure people across Kansas City know about the Friendly Finder program. Learn more at kcpetproject.org/services/found-pets/friendly-finders

Together, we can keep pets out of the shelter and get them home faster.

Last week, we were thrilled to welcome and his girlfriend to KC Pet Project! 🐾 Creed has been an incredible supporter of our mission, and it meant so much to have them visit our shelter to see the lifesaving work happening here every day. We had a blast introducing them to some of our adoptable pups—and let’s just say, the dogs were just as starstruck as we were! 💛 Thank you, Creed and Ana, for taking the time to learn more about what we do and for showing so much love to the pets in our care. We’re so grateful for your support!

Happy Foster Friday from our sweet girl, Locket! 💛 When Locket was first found, she was running between apartment buildings in dangerous 103° heat, showing signs of heat stroke. After arriving at our shelter, she was taken to our vet clinic where her temperature was a balmy 105 degrees. It was clear this girl had been through so much—and she was scared, underweight, and unsure of people. She spent some time at our shelter healing before heading into an amazing foster home to continue her journey.

Fast forward to today, and you’ll hardly recognize her! Thanks to the love and patience of her incredible foster home, Locket has blossomed into a gentle, playful, and affectionate companion. Her zoomies are a sight to see, and she loves spending her days rolling in the grass, trotting around with sticks, and keeping an eye on the neighborhood from the window. She’s crate trained, potty trained, food motivated, and slowly learning to enjoy walks, baths, and car rides. 🐾

Locket thrives in a quiet, low-traffic home and would do best with a patient adopter who will let her grow at her own pace. While she doesn’t need another dog, she truly shines with a calm, friendly canine buddy by her side. She’s been waiting in her foster home since August and is ready to find her perfect family.

💥 Her adoption fee is waived! 💥 Let’s get this deserving girl into a home where she can feel safe, loved, and thrive. To meet her, email [email protected] — and don’t forget to share her story so we can find her perfect match!

Meet Connor, Craig, and Clyde — three handsome roosters who have been patiently waiting for a place to finally call home. 🐓 These feathered gentlemen have spent the last month in our livestock barn at KC Pet Project, and while we’ve done our best to care for them, we know this isn’t where they truly belong.

We’re not equipped to give these guys the full, happy lives they deserve, and after weeks with little interest, we’re now waiving their adoption fees in hopes of finding them a safe, loving place to land. If you or someone you know has the space and heart for a rooster (or three!), please consider adopting. 💛

Before adopting, be sure to check local ordinances to make sure owning roosters is permitted where you live. Help us give Connor, Craig, and Clyde the fresh start they deserve!
