Our newest addition-to-be is the wildest one yet!
Apparently, running a zoo wasn't enough, so we had to add a baby to the mix. Our little one will be arriving in April 2025.
As we navigate becoming parents, there may be times where we are not as active on social media or attending in-person events as much as we would like to be. However, we will continue working to bring you Ethio's Exotic Zoo content.
Thank you for all of your support as we embark on a brand new adventure ❤️

Happy birthday, Hiro! 🎉
Today, we celebrated Back to Hogwarts with the birthday of our oldest boy, Hiro, who is now 14 years old! We've had Hiro since he was just a tiny kitten, and we couldn't ask for any other little guy to follow us around screaming.

Happy birthday, Itachi! 🎉
Today, we're celebrating Itachi's 4th birthday. He may be a stinky little guy, but he's our favorite stinky little guy. The birthday boy was treated to new toys and lots of treats, of course!

THANK YOU FOR 200 FOLLOWERS 🥳
We recently hit 200 followers across our Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube accounts, so we wanted to stop and say thank you for all of your support! We would stay and celebrate, but Basil says we have work to do, so we'll get back to it instead.

Welcome Milkshake! 🐍
We recently welcomed a new snake at Ethio's Exotic Zoo - Milkshake the milk snake!
With all new animals, it's important to quarantine the animal to ensure that they do not pass any diseases or pests onto other nearby animals. Snakes can commonly pass on Inclusion Body Disease (IBD) - which is fatal - and mites - which can quickly spread and can be difficult to get rid of.
Our quarantine enclosures are usually smaller, more bare, and are placed in a quiet and dark space to allow the animal to adjust to their new home. We usually quarantine for four to six weeks, depending on how the animal is adjusting. We look for good signs, such as the animal regularly eating, hiding during the day, and exploring at night. After quarantine, we move the animal into their bigger and better permanent home!
The milk snake is a species of kingsnake known for its colorful markings that mimic those of venomous snakes, such as coral snakes. They are native to tropical woodland areas, hence the usage of bark for Milkshake instead of cypress mulch.

Another Toast enclosure cleaning video!
Every few weeks, we completely remove everything from Toast's enclosure, clean and disinfect the enclosure and all items, place fresh bedding, and place fresh food and water.
Though we only deep clean Toast's enclosure about once a month, he receives new toys and fresh food and water every few days to ensure that he stays happy and healthy!

Baby Arkham doing some digging!
Did you know ball pythons like to dig?
They can do this for lots of reasons, including looking for security, regulating their body temperature, or just because it's fun! A couple of our ball pythons really like to dig, and it looks like Arkham does too 🐍

Arkham is such a lover boy ❤️
Yesterday, at Art Garden KC, we had a live painting session with baby Arkham, but he wanted to stop and watch the performances instead! But with that voice, who could blame him?
All of the paintings done by our animals use non-toxic, water-based paint. We utilized a bit of plastic wrap between the paint and the artist during the event so that he didn't get all messy!

Deep cleaning snake enclosures 🐍
Every three months or so, we deep clean each of our snake enclosures. We do not deep clean our snake enclosures as often as our other animal enclosures because deep cleaning can be a stressful event for our snakes, and is also a time-consuming process that is not needed often since snakes are fairly clean animals.
When deep cleaning, we remove everything from the enclosure, thoroughly wash and disinfect the enclosure and all items, and put in fresh substrate (cypress mulch).
This time, we also took the opportunity to seal the corners of the enclosures, as we had a couple that were leaking a bit recently. We also added a few new items to each enclosure for added enrichment and added hiding places.
