🌟 Staff Spotlight: Lee 🌟
This week, we're celebrating Lee, one of our incredible front desk team members!

Lee has been with us for almost two years now and is the definition of a great coworker. Always greeting everyone with a smile, Lee's positive attitude is truly contagious. No matter how busy things get, Lee never gets flustered and remains calm and collected—helping clients and pets feel at ease from the moment they walk through our doors.

We’re so grateful to have someone as hardworking, friendly, and dependable as Lee on our team. Thank you, Lee, for everything you do to keep things running smoothly and for making The Pet Resource Center of Kansas City such a welcoming place! 💙

Saving Sitka ❤️‍🩹

Sitka's owners quickly became worried when he started vomiting and not acting like himself. Sitka is usually not one to get into things, but after a couple days of him not getting better, they brought him to us for answers.

One look told us it was more than just an upset stomach. X-rays confirmed the culprit: a large sock completely lodged in Sitka’s intestines. Sadly, it caused so much damage that we had to remove part of his intestines during emergency surgery.

Sitka’s family was shocked—he hadn’t gotten into anything like this since he was a puppy. Sitka was lucky enough to have come through surgery and is now on the road to recovery, however, every week, we see pets who have swallowed socks, underwear, toys, and other household items.

Please keep your pet safe by picking up anything they could mistake for a snack or a chew toy (they love things that have your scent on it!). ❤️

We want to give a heartfelt thank you to Liberty Kid's Zone for their recent donation drive! 💙

The students were given the opportunity to choose a charity to support, and we’re so honored they picked our organization. Their hard work and generosity blew us away—they brought in so many donations that we were able to hand them out to pets at our holiday vaccination event! We cannot thank them enough for their support and for making a PAWsitive impact in our community!

Accidents can happen in the blink of an eye, and one of the most heartbreaking emergencies we see in urgent care is pets hit by cars. 💔

This is Mrs. Chunk. Despite her leg appearing to have minimal injuries, she suffered nerve damage from being hit by a car and will likely need to have her front leg amputated.

We know how much you love your pets, and it’s devastating when something like this happens. That’s why we want to gently remind everyone how important it is to take precautions—keeping pets on a secure leash during walks, securing doors and gates, and ensuring they don’t have an opportunity to slip out of the house or yard. Accidents happen, but its important as a pet owner to always be vigilant about your pet's health and safety.

A sneak peak into what it looks like at our clinic when we get in a unique case!

Word spread quickly across our clinic about a pup that came in dire condition. He had fractured his urethra and it was completely blocked, he could not urinate on his own. Dr. Washington stepped in to perform a special surgery, re-routing the urethra through the pup's sc***um to restore his ability to urinate.

While his journey to recovery isn’t over yet, we’re hopeful and will be following up on his progress. We have learned to expect the unexpected in our urgent care but every once in a while we get in a case like this that keeps us on our toes!

NEVER Ignore These Symptoms From Your Cat‼️

Urinary blockages in cats are serious and life-threatening emergencies that require IMMEDIATE veterinary attention. MALE cats are especially prone to this condition, which can become fatal in mere days if left untreated.

Here’s what you need to know:
Signs of a Blockage:
🚨 Frequent trips to the litter box with little or no urine.
🚨 Straining or crying while urinating.
🚨 Blood in the urine.
🚨 Excessive licking of the ge***al area.
🚨 Vomiting, hiding/lethargy/aggitated, or lack of appetite.

How Common Are They?
Urinary blockages are unfortunately quite common. Diet, stress, and dehydration are some contributing factors.

How to Prevent Blockages:
✔️ Ensure your cat drinks plenty of water—wet food and a water fountain can help!
✔️ Provide a low-stress environment.
✔️ Feed a balanced diet that supports urinary health (ask your vet for recommendations).
✔️ Regularly clean and maintain the litter box.

How Expensive Are They to Treat?
Treating a urinary blockage can cost hundreds or even thousands, depending on the severity. Delayed treatment can increase costs and risks, so early action is key.

If your cat shows any of these symptoms, don’t wait—seek veterinary care immediately. Your quick action could save their life. ❤️

By looking at the photos of this sweet, happy pup you would never have guessed all she has been through in the past couple weeks. When Bella came into our urgent care she had an a**l prolapse—her insides were exposed—and we’ve worked tirelessly to repair it, now for a third time. Today Bella had to undergo a Colpopexy surgery, a specialized procedure that has finally corrected her condition. She has also been spayed, but she still needs entropion surgery to fix her eye condition.

We know what you're thinking, this poor pup has been through it! Her owners have had to rush her to our clinic THREE times now, unsure if we would be able to help her. Each time we had a full schedule but knew we had to make it work because how could we ever say no to that face?! Now, her family is hoping we can help with one more miracle - covering the costs of her three surgeries. Every donation will be DOUBLED thanks to our Tails of Hope fundraiser meaning your donation can make a real impact for sweet Bella and her family. Thank you for your support as we work together to give Bella's family a Christmas miracle! ❤

Four years ago, we met Trey and his sweet pup, Missy. They were unhoused, but they had each other — and that bond has only grown stronger over time.

Recently, Trey and Missy came back to us to get her up to date on vaccines and prevention. Despite the challenges and hardships they continue to face, they’ve stayed together through it all. Trey shared that Missy is his family and his reason to keep going.

Trey and Missy are a powerful reminder of how unbreakable the connection can be between an owner and their pet. And they are also a reminder of how important it is for us to continue to provide resources and vet care so that owners like Trey can continue to have access to care for their pets. 💛
