Volunteer Spotlight: Justin & Aaron!

We want to take a moment to recognize two of our volunteers, Justin and Aaron, who go above and beyond in their efforts to support our mission! Both have been a huge help at our vaccination drive-thrus, where they serve as pet runners, and it's clear the pets appreciate them just as much as we do!

Beyond their work at the drive-thrus, we're thrilled to have Justin and Aaron volunteering at our upcoming gala, the Fairy-Tails Ball. Not only are they lending a helping hand at the event, but they've also generously donated an item to our silent auction, further demonstrating their commitment to our cause.

Thank you, Justin and Aaron, for your unwavering support, generosity, and the positive impact you make on our organization. We're grateful to have you on our team! 💙 If you are interested in learning more about our volunteer program, head to prckc.org/volunteer!

A Life-Changing Surgery for Pink & Rosie!

You may remember Pink and Rosie, the sisters in need of double cherry eye repair. Their condition made it nearly impossible to see, with the cherry eye covering almost their entire eyes. But thanks to Dr. Banning’s skillful surgery, these sweet girls are on their way to a brighter future!

We know that when they wake up, they’ll finally be able to see the world clearly for the first time in a long time! A huge thank you to Dr. Banning for not only repairing their eyes but also spaying them while they were under. We can’t wait for them to experience life with a fresh new view!

Kermit might get a little nervous during vet visits, but his owners know just how to comfort him! They tied one of their scarves over his ears to block out the noise and act as a "security blanket" for him. We couldn't get over how adorable he looked! It warms our hearts when pet parents go the extra mile to keep their furry friends calm and comfortable. 🥰

Frisky Feline Friday: 99 Cats Spayed & Neutered!

Did you know that one unspayed female cat can have up to 180 kittens in her lifetime? With her offspring also reproducing, that number can quickly reach the thousands! 🙀

Today, we took a huge step in preventing pet overpopulation—99 cats were spayed and neutered at Frisky Feline Friday! That means fewer unwanted litters, fewer cats struggling to find homes, and a healthier future for our feline friends. Thank you to everyone who brought their cat in today! If you missed this event, stay tuned for next Frisky Feline Friday! 🐈

This Feel Good Friday we want to introduce you to King! 😍

King and has been the best companion to our Community Outreach Assistant, Nina, and her family. Recently, he became very ill, and after testing, our vet team discovered his blood platelets were dangerously low. Soon after, his right eye pr*****ed (popped out of its socket) due to internal bleeding, but because of his condition, surgery wasn’t immediately possible.

Our team acted quickly, starting treatment to stabilize his platelets. Once it was safe, they successfully removed his eye, and we’re happy to share that King is now feeling MUCH better! While he still has a journey ahead, we suspect his symptoms are caused by Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia (ITP), a condition where his immune system attacks his platelets, making it difficult for his blood to clot.

With Nina by his side and the support of our amazing vet team, we know King will continue to thrive! And let’s be honest—he’s still just as adorable as ever! 💙

Dr. Washington and two of our vet techs, McKenzie and Laurelle, traveled all the way to El Paso Animal Services to take part in something truly amazing—a massive, public spay/neuter event! Over the course of just three days, our team worked alongside dedicated techs, volunteers, and organizers to complete 435 surgeries and provide other essential care like vaccines and microchips. 💙

This was El Paso Animal Service's first-ever event of this scale, and we were honored to be a part of its incredible success! Playing a part in so many pets getting the care they needed was beyond rewarding for our team, and we couldn’t be more grateful to be apart of it. Huge shoutout to El Paso Animal Services for making this happen and for everything they do for pets in their community!

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Nina!🌟

Meet Nina, our Community Outreach Assistant, who has been going above and beyond to support our team and the families we serve! Whether she’s jumping in to help our mobile department, assisting with volunteer coordination, or stepping up wherever needed, Nina brings her positivity to everything she does!

One of the many things that we love about Nina is how she takes the time to learn each new volunteer’s name, making sure they feel welcomed and valued from day one. Nina’s passion for helping others is inspiring, and we’re so grateful to have her on our team! Thank you, Nina, for your hard work and for making a real difference every day. 💙

Remember that crazy snowstorm last week? One of our clients braved it all—driving over eight hours from Colorado—to get his pup, Mikayla, to our urgent care!

A few years ago, Mikayla came to us for what we thought was a foreign body, but once Dr. Washington began surgery, she discovered that Mikayla had a diaphragmatic hernia—a condition caused by a genetic defect at birth. Dr. Washington performed a life-saving procedure, removing Mikayla’s spleen and doing a gastropexy.

Fast forward two years, and Mikayla was showing the same concerning symptoms. Her owner knew exactly who to trust—so he made the long journey back to see our chief vet, Dr. Washington. Once again, surgery revealed a serious issue: adhesions had formed, and a hole had torn in her diaphragm. Mikayla’s colon had slipped through the hole, becoming distended and gas-filled. Dr. Washington carefully repositioned the colon, repaired the diaphragm, and removed the trapped air.

The surgery was a success, and thanks to her dedicated owner, Dr. Washington and her expert team, Mikayla is on the road to recovery! We’re honored to be a place families can count on, no matter the distance. ❤️
