🚨 Pet Safety Tip: What to Do if You Suspect Your Pet Ate Something Toxic 🚨

If you’re worried your pet has ingested something harmful, don't panic! Calling a poison control hotline can be a lifesaver. While there is a cost to call, it could potentially save you the cost of an emergency vet visit. The quicker you act, the better the outcome! Poison control can help determine if your pet is in danger and what steps to take next. It’s always better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your pet's health.

We see some tough things in our urgent care—like helping pet owners say goodbye to their beloved pets. It’s never easy. This week, a pet owner had to say goodbye to his canine companion, Mac.

A few days later, he surprised our urgent care team—Rachel, Christine, and Chief Veterinarian Dr. Washington—with a heartfelt card, cookies, and beautiful bouquets of flowers to thank them for their kindness and compassion during such a difficult time. Gestures like this mean the world to us. They remind us why we do what we do and help us through the tough days. To Mac’s family: Thank you, and we are here for you. ❤️

Feel-Good Friday: Welcome Home, Sir Lancelot! 🧡

After nearly two months of being lost, our staff member's beloved cat, Sir Lancelot, is finally back home! He slipped out the front door and vanished, but after weeks of searching and setting a trap with salmon skin, he was safely recovered!

Sir Lancelot came back a little dehydrated and thinner but, remarkably, still healthy after his adventure. What made this happy reunion possible was his microchip, which confirmed without a doubt that this was their missing Lancelot.

Microchips play a crucial role in reuniting lost pets with their families. If your pet isn’t microchipped yet, schedule an appointment with us today: https://bit.ly/3OzmQxn

🚨 GRAPHIC IMAGES BELOW 🚨

Here's a fascinating glimpse at the difference spaying can make! On the left is the uterus of a 6-month-old pittie who's never had puppies. On the right is the uterus of a shepherd mix who’s had multiple litters. The difference is staggering, and it shows how much strain repeated pregnancies can put on a dog's body.

Spaying early not only makes the procedure easier for vet staff but also offers significant health benefits, like lowering the risk of mammary tumors and completely preventing uterine infections like pyometra. By fixing pets, we’re fixing the problem—and giving them healthier, happier lives! Make your pets appt here: https://bit.ly/3OeG1w0

Keeping Pets Safe and Warm, One Day at a Time 💙

As temperatures dropped dangerously low, our outreach team hit the streets. Whether it was delivering food, straw, dog houses, or kennels so owners could bring their pets indoors, our team has been working to make sure families have what they need to protect their pets during this harsh winter.

In addition to delivering resources, our team has been patrolling neighborhoods, looking out for stray pets or pets in need. From saving strays from the cold to helping animals that might otherwise be overlooked, we are committed to making sure every pet has a chance to be safe and warm.

But we can’t do it without your help. Your donation keeps our team on the road and ensures that we can continue to deliver life-saving resources. Together, we can make sure that pets are well cared for through the coldest months of the year.

Why Cats Yowl — And How Spaying & Neutering Can Help!

If you've ever heard a cat yowling loudly in the middle of the night, chances are they're in heat! This vocal behavior is a way for cats to attract potential mates, and it can be frustrating for both the cat and their owners.

But the good news is that spaying or neutering your cat can prevent this behavior and also help keep them healthier and happier in the long run. Spaying and neutering help reduce the risk of certain cancers, unwanted pregnancies, and the spreading of diseases.

If you need assistance with affordable spay/neuter options, reach out to us today! Your cat—and your home—will be more peaceful! Book NOW: https://bit.ly/3OeG1w

❗️PLEASE READ ❗️Breakaway Collars for Cats

This sweet cat was lost from home, and during his time away, his collar got stuck underneath his arm. Over time, it became embedded deeper into his armpit, causing a painful and severe injury. Thankfully, we’re hopeful for a full recovery, but this situation is a painful reminder of why choosing the right collar is so important.

While traditional collars might seem secure, they can be dangerous if your cat gets caught on something. Here’s why you should always choose a breakaway collar over a regular one:

Breakaway Collar
✅ Designed for safety, the clasp releases automatically under pressure, allowing your cat to free themselves if trapped. This helps prevent choking, strangulation, and injury.

Regular Collar
❌ Regular collars have fixed clasps that don’t release under pressure. If your cat gets caught, the collar can cause severe injury or even strangulation.

A breakaway collar is not just an option—it's a life-saving necessity. Please, check your cat’s collar today and ensure they’re safe and protected.

Isaac here wants you to know that regular grooming isn’t just about keeping your pet smelling fresh and clean, it's also vital for their overall health and well-being!

Here’s why grooming is so important:
🧼 Healthy Skin & Coat: Brushing removes dirt, prevents mats, and distributes natural oils, keeping their coat shiny and skin healthy.
✂️ Comfort & Hygiene: Trimming nails prevents painful overgrowth, and cleaning ears helps reduce the risk of infections.
🩺 Early Detection: Grooming allows you to spot lumps, bumps, or skin issues early before they become serious.
🪮 Reduces Shedding: Regular grooming keeps loose fur under control.
💗 Strengthens Your Bond: Grooming sessions are a great way to bond with your pet and build trust!

🐕 For Dogs: Regular baths, nail trims, ear cleaning, and coat brushing are essential. Breeds with long or curly hair, like doodles or yorkies may need professional grooming more frequently.
🐈 For Cats: Even cats need help! Regular brushing reduces hairballs, especially for long-haired cats, and keeps their coat tangle-free.

‼️ WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES ‼️

Altercations between dogs are a common emergency we see in our urgent care—whether between dogs from different homes or even those in the same household. The pups below, one neutered and one intact, got into a altercation when they visited each other’s home, leading to a trip to our urgent care.

Both dogs are on the mend and should have a full recovery. However, we wanted to share how to prevent an altercation because once one happens, it can cause serious damage in seconds.

How to Prevent Dog Alrercations:
▪️ Proper Introductions – Introduce dogs slowly, on a loose leash, and always supervise. Always stay calm when introducing two dogs for the first time.
▪️ Spay/Neuter – Dogs who are spayed/neutered are less likely to be territorial or aggressive.
▪️ Watch for Warning Signs – Growling, lip curling, stiff tails, or tense body language are red flags.
▪️ Training & Socialization – Early training helps dogs communicate better with each other.

And it's not just the males who get into fights—two female dogs are often more likely to fight than males, especially if they’re both intact or have strong territorial instincts!
