Ouch!!! Kobe here stepped on a discarded hook while out fishing with his owner. The barbs became deeply imbedded into his paw, requiring a trip to our urgent care. Dr. Nichols and our team had to cut the large hook with bolt cutters than delicately pull the hook out of Kobe's paw.

Thanks to our skilled team, Kobe is now on the road to recovery and back to enjoying his favorite adventures with his owner. Remember, keeping our outdoor spaces clean and free of hazards helps keep pets like Kobe safe! 💙

WARNING GRAPHIC IMAGES ❗

Nitro caused quite the stir when he came to our clinic soaked in blood from a severe injury to his paw. While down by his family's pond, Nitro was cut by what they believe was a large piece of glass. Overwhelmed with worry for their beloved dog and the cost of care, Nitro’s family turned to us for help. We assured them we would do everything we could to raise funds for Nitro's treatment.

Not only did we treat his paw, but we also took this opportunity to neuter Nitro, update his vaccinations, and provide him with a new collar, rabies tag, and flea prevention.

Now, we need your help. Nitro’s journey to recovery is only possible because of compassionate people like you that show their support for our organization and the pets we serve. Please consider donating today so we can continue providing care to pets like Nitro who need us most. Every dollar truly makes a difference. ❤️‍🩹

Hill’s Pet Nutrition just donated enough food to feed HUNDREDS OF PETS! 🥳

We cannot thank our friends at Hill’s Pet Nutrition enough for their extremely generous donation of over 30,000 pounds of pet food!!! We even ran out of room at our storage unit and the folks at Hill's made a special trip to our clinic to drop the rest off.

This food is going right the pets who need it most through our twice a month pet food pantry, our efforts with houseless pet owners, and the many people who come in every day who need food for their pets.

Thanks to Hill’s Pet Nutrition, countless pets will have full bellies and their owners can rest easy knowing their pets are taken care of. We are so grateful for their continued support! 💙❤

Simba's Big Adventure!

Remember our buddy Simba? We have been working with his family on getting him everything he needs to be happy and healthy and this week that included getting him neutered! Simba's family is without transportation so our outreach team had the privilege of giving him his first car ride. When we went to pick him up his entire family was there, the children even getting emotional when seeing him off. 💙

This was Simba's first car ride AND his first trip to the vet as we have previously done his vet care curbside. Simba was very brave for his neuter appointment and we even found him snoozing peacefully when we went to check on him. When we brought him home Simba could not get inside fast enough to see his family, but before we left Simba thanked us with slobbery kisses and his family with words of gratitude and hugs.

Simba was able to be neutered at free of cost to his owners thanks to supporters like you, thank you for making stories like Simba's possible. 💛

Our Urgent Care Heroes 💙

It's hard to put into words our appreciation for our urgent care team. Every day, they handle tough situations with so much compassion and grace. These amazing ladies have helped families through saying goodbye to their beloved pets, parvo treatments, lifesaving surgeries, and so much more.

Their dedication goes beyond just medical care; they offer a comforting presence in some of the hardest moments our clients face. Whether it's a gentle touch, a kind word, or a reassuring smile, they make sure every pet and person feels seen and supported. We are endlessly grateful for their unwavering commitment to every animal that comes through our doors. Thank you for being such an important part of our mission, today and every day. 💙

Pet owners with large dogs, do you know what a gastropexy is?

Gastropexy is a surgical procedure that can be used as a preventative measure to stop a dog’s stomach from twisting, which is a life-threatening condition known as bloat or Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (GDV). When a dog’s stomach twists, it can block the entry and exit points, cutting off blood supply to the stomach and other organs. This can cause severe pain, bruising, and thinning of the stomach wall. If left untreated, a dog with GDV can die within hours.

This surgery is often performed while a dog is already under anesthesia for another procedure, like spaying or neutering, as was the case with this pup. During the surgery, the stomach is attached to the abdominal wall to prevent future twisting. Large breed dogs, such as Great Danes, Saint Bernards, and Irish Setters, are more prone to bloat and can greatly benefit from gastropexy as a preventative measure.

If you have a large breed dog, consider talking to your veterinarian about whether a gastropexy might be a good option for your pet.

Love Heals All Wounds ❤️‍🩹

Fiona was brought to our urgent care by our amazing partners at KCK Animal Services after she was found running loose with burns down her back. It was a tough case for our staff to handle, but one of our team members quickly bonded with Fiona and decided to foster her while she recovered.

Since then, Fiona has been coming to work at PRC every day with her new foster mom, soaking up all the love and attention and playing with the other pups. We've loved watching her blossom into a spunky, sweet, and courageous dog. Now, she is almost fully healed and has even had her spay surgery, signaling that she’s ready for adoption. However, when the time came to say goodbye, her foster mom knew she couldn’t let her go. The bond they share is too strong, and Fiona has now found her forever home, where she'll be loved and cared for years to come. ❤️

If you’ve ever had a pet on Apoquel, you know just how much relief it can provide for allergies and itchy skin. However, the cost can be a barrier for some pet owners.

Recently, one of our clients who lost her beloved pet, chose to donate multiple bottles of unopened Apoquel that she had forgotten to cancel from our online pharmacy. Her thoughtful donation means that pets in need can now receive this crucial medication—something their families might not have been able to afford otherwise.

We are deeply grateful to this compassionate individual for thinking of other pets, even during her own time of loss. Your generosity makes a big difference, and we thank you for supporting our clinic in such a meaningful way. 💙

🚨WARNING🚨 This heat can be FATAL ❗️

It can be LIFE THREATNING for a pet to be left unattended outdoors this week! Pets left outdoors are at high risk for heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Our outreach team will be hitting the streets of Kansas City, MO and surrounding areas this week making sure pets that are outdoors have shelter, shade, plenty of water, and their owners are educated about the dangers of heat for their pets. If you or someone you know needs resources to help their pets beat the heat, email [email protected]. If you see a pet in need of immediate assistance, please contact your local animal control ASAP.

Fixing Pets, Fixing the Problem.

TWICE last week, litters of kittens were left abandoned outside our clinic. These frightened little ones had to be taken to a local animal shelter that is already overwhelmed with pets needing homes. While we’re unsure if these kittens came from feral or owned cats, one thing is clear: we need your help.

So, how can you help? If your pets are already spayed or neutered, you're contributing to the solution and helping to address the pet overpopulation crisis. Want to do even more? Consider trapping the feral cats in your area and getting them fixed through our trap-neuter-return program!

If you haven’t already, please consider doing your part by making an appointment to have your pet spayed or neutered with us. You can schedule an appointment for your pet HERE: https://prckc.org/affordable-spay-neuter/spay-neuter-appointments/

Check out this FIVE STAR review! 🤩

"Pet Resource Center Urgent Care: Make sure you park in a designated spot numbered 1-10. They can only take 10 people a day; and they take care of the animals in urgency. My dog Nala (GSD) had a broken nail that was bleeding a lot and causing pain. We were quoted from other vets $800-$1200. I would not have been able to get her taken care of. Pet Resource Center charged me $95!! With sedation, medication, and a lot of information. The vet and vet techs went above and beyond to make sure I was informed and Nala was taken care of. Well worth the wait! Thank you to you and your staff."

Thank you so much to this client for the kind words, reviews like this make our day! 💙

Along with offering euthanasia services we try to go above and beyond for our clients who recently lost a pet. Being able to provide our clients with a reminder of their pet is so important to us because we know that to you, they are so much more than just pets—they are family. ❤️

Wobbles might be a little wobbly on his feet, but he doesn't let that get him down! This little guy has Cerebellar Hypoplasia (CH), a neurological condition that impacts his coordination and balance. CH occurs when the cerebellum (the part of the brain responsible for motor control) is underdeveloped, often due to factors like the mother cat contracting a virus during pregnancy.

While his walk is a little wonky, CH doesn’t cause Wobbles any pain and won’t get worse over time. Pets with special needs, like Wobbles, have so much love to give. He’s just as playful and affectionate as any other cat, reminding us that different, doesn’t mean less. 💙

08/22/2024

This is Aries during her SECOND visit to our urgent care clinic. Her owners first brought her to us with severe gastrointestinal issues—she couldn’t keep any food down and was beginning to lose weight. After some investigation, we discovered that Aries had ingested a few non-edible items, including a sock and a headphone.

We thought Aries was on the road to recovery, but she soon began showing the same troubling symptoms, losing even more weight. Her family brought her back to urgent care, where they anxiously took turns waiting with her through a second surgery. Dr. Goldston discovered that Aries had developed intussusception, a serious condition where her intestines had telescoped inside themselves. Fortunately, Dr. Goldston was able to carefully repair the damage, and we are thrilled to share that Aries is finally on the mend! The love and devotion her family showed was heartwarming—they never wanted to leave her side. We’re incredibly grateful that we could help save this sweet girl’s life.

As you can imagine, the cost of this surgery, on top of the previous one for the foreign body removal, has been a significant burden for Aries' family. If you could find it in your heart to donate toward Aries' medical care at the button below, it would mean the world to us and to them. 💙

What does it mean when a cat is missing the tip of one his ears?

An ear tip doesn't just mean that this "feral" cat was spayed/neutered, it means that someone took the time to feed, trap, transport, and pay for their vet care. It means someone put in the effort to get this cat their vaccines, prevention, and put a stop to them reproducing. It means someone cared enough to make a difference.

Our trap-neuter-release program is here to support community cats, helping them live healthier lives while reducing the number of homeless animals in our city. We’re incredibly grateful to the compassionate individuals who help care for and manage feral/community cats. If you want to learn more about how you can get involved, check out our Community Cat Program on our website here: https://prckc.org/community-cats/ -type
