🐾 Meet Sid: Rescued and Recovering! 🐾

Sid came to us for dental care recently, rescued by our partners at KCK Animal Services. After living with untreated dental disease for so long, Sid developed fistulas — openings between his nose and mouth that make eating and even breathing painful. Thanks to Dr. Maki and our incredible vet team, Sid is getting the specialized care he deserves, including a much-needed dental procedure to help him live pain-free.

Sid’s story is a reminder of the impact we can make together. Your support allows us to provide essential care to animals in need, helping them live their best life. 💙 Now, Sid is ready to find his forever family!

We are grateful for this partnership that will help us provide essential care to pets in need. 🐾

A Heartfelt Thank You to Soil Service - Kansas City!

We are incredibly grateful for the support of Soil Service - Kansas City! They've generously set up a straw fund at their shop, inviting customers to contribute toward providing straw for outdoor pets and community cats.

As winter approaches, let’s remember that straw is an essential resource for pets living outdoors. It provides warmth and insulation, ensuring they stay safe, dry, and comfortable during the cold months ahead. If you're in the area, please consider stopping by to donate. Your generosity is crucial in helping keep these pets safe this season.

And while you're there, don’t forget to show some love to their adorable shop cat, Fancy! (Soil Service is located at 7130 Troost Ave. Kansas City, Missouri 64131)

🎉 Happy Birthday, Johnathan! 🎉

Not exactly the birthday he had in mind… but hey, what better way to celebrate a fresh start than with a neuter? 😂 To make up for the whole “Happy Birthday, you’re getting neutered” situation, we loaded him up with a goodie bag full of treats and toys. Here’s to a speedy recovery and no surprise puppies! 🐾🎈

Recently, two of our staff members spotted an unhoused pet owner in need and didn't hesitate to lend a helping hand. They stopped to check in, bringing essential supplies and taking time to chat with her about how we can support her pets’ care. They discussed vaccinations and even explored options for spaying and neutering her dogs.

We are so grateful for staff members who never hesitate to go above and beyond for both pets and their people. 💙

🌟 Staff Highlight: Ramona, Our Community Field Coordinator 🌟

For 12 years, Ramona has been a crucial member of our outreach team at PRCKC. As Community Field Coordinator, she builds strong relationships with clients and other animal welfare organizations, working tirelessly to make sure pets in need get the help they deserve. It’s a role that takes patience, resilience, and a deep love for animals and their people.

Whether she’s doing pet transports, resource drop offs, or curbside vet assistance with our K-State partners, Ramona faces every challenge with compassion. Even when clients are unsure or hesitant, she finds a way to connect and advocate for what’s best for each pet.

We’re beyond grateful for the dedication she gives to our mission every single day! Enjoy these throwbacks of Ramona from all the way back when we were still Spay and Neuter Kansas City and give her some love in the comments for all she does!

🎃🐾 Happy Howl-o-ween from all of us at PRCKC! 🐾🎃

Before you dive into the treats, here are a few tips to keep your pets safe and having a howling good time tonight:

🍬 Keep the candy out of paws' reach – especially chocolate and anything with xylitol! 👻 Keep pets away from trick-or-treaters – all the costumes and excitement can be a little overwhelming for them. 🕯️ Watch out for spooky décor – be mindful of candles and small items pets might chew on. 🧛 Costume comfort – if your pet’s dressed up, make sure the fit allows them to move and breathe easily.

Enjoy these adorable staff/volunteer pet costumes, and share your pet’s Halloween costume in the comments below! We’d love to see them! 💀🎉

🚨 Graphic Warning: Cupcake’s Story Involves Sensitive Images 🚨

Meet Cupcake – the Cat Who Beat the Odds!

When Cupcake’s owner discovered a massive, necrotic growth on her beloved cat’s head, her heart broke. Cupcake isn’t just any pet— her owner told us she’s her “soul cat”. Terrified, she hesitated to seek help, fearing the only answer would be euthanasia.

But when she finally brought Cupcake to us, our chief veterinarian, Dr. Washington, took on the challenge with one promise: to do everything she could. Hours of risky surgery later, Dr. Washington had removed the entire mass, and today, Cupcake is unrecognizable in the best way!

Now, though, Cupcake’s family faces a substantial medical bill for the surgery that saved her life. We urgently need your help to cover the cost of Cupcake’s life-saving care. Please help us ease this burden for Cupcake's family by donating at the button below...💙

In the spirit of Halloween, we wanted to share what we think a PRCKC Staff Member Costume would include! 🎃👻

- A well-loved PRCKC t-shirt or hat, proudly displaying a layer of fur from the shedding season.
- A couple of leashes looped around an arm—maybe a bit damp, because hey, accidents happen!
- A trusty energy drink (or two!) to keep up with all the action.
- Room in their hearts for one more furry family member!

And of course a love for the pets and clients that we serve! 🧡

The staff at PRCKC are busting myths! This time it is PRCKC edition!

✨ Myth 1: "You’re an animal shelter, right?" Busted! We’re a unique nonprofit veterinary and resource clinic. While we’re here to support the community and pets in need, we’re not a shelter.

✨ Myth 2: "You're a full-service vet!" Busted! We focus on specific veterinary services to keep care affordable and accessible, offering vaccinations, dentals, urgent care, spay/neuter, and some special surgeries. However, we’re not a general practice for all health needs.

✨ Myth 3: "You take care of all animals!" Busted! Our expertise is with cats and dogs only; we don’t handle exotic animals.

✨ Myth 4: "You only serve pet owners who have limited funds for vet care." Busted! We’re for all pet owners—no matter your income or where you live. In fact clients, who are able to pay full price or even round up their total are helping pay for another pet’s vet care!

✨ Myth 5: "Nonprofits are expensive." Busted! Our services are just a fraction of the cost of most clinics, helping keep pets happy and healthy without breaking the bank!

Staff Highlight: Dr. Washington!

Dr. Washington, our Chief Veterinarian, whose passion for animal welfare drives the heart of our clinic. Dr. Washington is a true force of nature, always thinking of ways to improve the experience for both our clients and staff.

Her dedication to spay and neuter efforts is nothing short of remarkable. Not only does she oversee our high-volume clinic, but most weekends, she goes the extra mile—literally—by traveling to Texas to assist large shelters with their spay and neuter programs. Her unwavering belief in the importance of controlling the pet population fuels this work, and we’re in awe of her ability to make such an incredible impact, even outside our local community.

We don’t know how she does it, but we do know one thing—we’re incredibly lucky to have her on our team, and we’re honored to work alongside someone who gives so much to the cause. Thank you, Dr. Washington, for everything you do to make our clinic and community a better place for pets and people alike!

This is Mickey, a longtime patient at our clinic who has been with us ever since he was a tiny puppy! Mickey’s visits are always a highlight—he gets a special ride from our outreach team and loves hanging out with his buddy Ramona, one of our wonderful staff members.

Recently, Mickey's owners called with some exciting news: they opened their hearts and home to a new dog! With Mickey already keeping them busy, we had to ask what led to their decision. Their response was inspiring. When their neighbor could no longer care for their dog, Rosa, they stepped up, adopting her and immediately reaching out to us to ensure she got the care she needed—spay, vaccines, and a clean bill of health.

We’re so proud to support families like Mickey and Rosa’s, who go above and beyond to give pets the love and care they deserve. 💙

Meet Our Clients: Maria, Bichetta, and Thunder

This is Miss Maria, and she will be the first to tell you—these are not her pets, but her family members. Bichetta and Thunder mean the world to her.

Maria has been a client of ours since back when we were Spay and Neuter Kansas City. She first came to us when Bichetta urgently needed to be spayed. Maria was facing losing her housing if Bichetta wasn’t spayed in time, but with no funds to spare, she didn’t know what to do. A few days later, Maria saw an ad for our affordable services at the DMV—she calls it fate. We spayed Bichetta at no cost, and over the years, we’ve continued to provide care and support whenever needed.

Recently, Maria welcomed another pup into her family, Thunder, who’s been inseparable from Bichetta ever since. Maria tells us that Bichetta and Thunder aren’t just companions—they’re her protectors. Her home has been broken into not once, but twice, and both times, Bichetta and Thunder defended her. We were there for Maria to make sure her dogs got the care they needed after those terrifying incidents.

Maria calls us her angels, but we believe her true angels are Bichetta and Thunder. While we provide the care, it’s these two pups who give Maria the love, loyalty, and companionship she needs every day. ❤

🚨 Important Update: Changes to Our Services! 🚨

Starting this week, we will begin seeing and treating skin and ear issues through our wellness clinic for just a $35 exam fee. This change means your pets can receive the care they need without the long wait times previously experienced in our urgent care.

Please note that also starting October 21st, our Urgent Care hours will also change. Urgent care services will now be available Monday through Wednesday, starting at 8 AM each day, and we will continue to see patients until we reach capacity.

We understand these adjustments may impact how you plan your pet’s care, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate these changes.

Woody came to our urgent care very sick and feeling down in the dumps, but it didn’t take long for him to win over every staff member's heart!

Woody required exploratory surgery, and we were all on the edge of our seats with worry. His intestines had begun to fill with fluids due to a blockage caused by a piece of a stuffed toy he had eaten. Thankfully, our incredible vets Dr. Goldston and Dr. Maki worked diligently together to remove the life-threatening blockage.

Thanks to our amazing vet team we are happy to report that Woody is now on the road to recovery! Stay strong, Woody; we can’t wait to see you back to your playful self soon!
