There's nothing quite like the bond between human & dog. As one of those born with paw prints on my heart... I get it! And I mean EVERY DAY!

Rescue does not take a day off, does not close for holidays, does not take a v

acation - it's 24/7 nonstop. Abuse, neglect, homelessness happens all day every day. The time, energy, and passion these volunteers expend to save lives (whether it's one life or 100) never ceases to amaze me. And yes, I said volunteer. Most of the people involved in rescue do not get paid. In fact, most have jobs and do this on the side! Most shelters and rescues operate on a shoestring budget (usually in debt), relying on donations from other compassionate, kindhearted folks. Their level of dedication and commitment to this life-saving effort is undeniable. As the saying goes, it takes a village, and truly it does. No one does this alone. It is a coordinated effort of rescues, shelters, volunteers, fosters, transporters, donors, adopters, networkers and educators. To see it in action is to witness a miracle of the heart. All of the people and dogs I've met in the rescue community, as well as my own motley crew, are the inspiration for my creations. My mission with this project is to offer creative, quality, value products that:
• express the love and dedication we feel for our pets
• raise awareness of rescue organizations and their efforts
• help rescues and shelters raise funds for their work

I know it’s all about the dogs! I also know it takes money to save lives. That’s why I want to partner with shelters, rescues and YOU to Paw It Forward. Every sale generates funds for animal rescue. *Remember that even the water or a little pollen from lilies can kill or cause severe neurological & organ damage in cats. Don't have them in your house if you have cats!! If you even think your cat came in contact, call poison control & see a vet immediately.
Pine needles and water are not on this list, but can also be a danger.

We are thrilled to say HSGKC is part of The Spay/Neuter Collaborative of KC. This collaborative has been formed so we can reach every corner of Kansas City in order to get your pets fixed…FOR FREE.
Here’s what you need to know:
🐶 The collaborative has 10 organizations — only 7 locations have the ability to provide spay/neuter services
🐱A joint website will be launched soon that will have the facilities offering spay/neuter services listed with scheduling capabilities — keep an eye out on our social media for that launch
🐶 Spaces are limited! We intend to offer several clinics throughout the year, but you will want to get on the website and schedule your pet as soon as it’s launched
🐱 YES — it’s FREE
🐶 Each location has its own capacity and will only be able to offer what they can manage. If a location is full, check the other locations because they might have open slots available

Please be careful with any wax, oils and diffusers if you have cats in the house.

⚠️🐱🐈 CAUTION CAT OWNERS ⚠️🐱🫣
I wanted to share the horrors we went through for the past 3 weeks.
We first noticed drainage coming out of her right nostril. It was mostly clear in nature and she was sneezing quite a bit. We took her to our vet and they thought she had an upper respiratory infection. We gave her antibiotics and went on our way.
One week later, the drainage had increased and turned bloody and her appetite was starting to decrease. We called the vet again and they had us come in an pick up another antibiotic/immune boost to add to her food.
That Sunday, she stopped eating, stopped drinking, was isolating herself and I noticed she wasn’t going to the bathroom as much.
At this point, nothing was helping. She was dying and we knew it.
All day Friday I cried and kept thinking about what we had done differently around the house and that’s when it hit me. About a month ago Adam found these really good smelling plug in fragrance wall diffusers.
I immediately unplugged them, opened windows and turned on fans. By Friday evening Mit Meow was able to walk to us. Saturday morning she woke me up at 4:45 am meowing and hungry. Her nasal drainage had stopped, she was eating, her balance was improving and she wanted attention.
After further investigation we learned that several of these diffusers are toxic to animals and that they have more severe reactions to cats because they are at nose level to them.

Watch your dogs around unknown sources of water. Dogs who consume water with blue-green algae can experience a number of health issues, including severe neurologic damage, liver failure, and even death.

A dog owner is warning other pet owners to be on the lookout for dangerous algae after her dog died earlier this month.
