Summer is here…and petbar Boutique - Katy is here for you M - F 9:00 am - 6:00 pm & Saturday 10:00 am - 6:00 pm. Help your fur-buddy feel, look, and smell their best all summer long! Take advantage of our self-serve baths or schedule a full-service bath or grooming session with our professional team! Help your pooch beat the heat with these five summertime dog care reminders: * Regular Full-Grooming Sessions: A proper hair cut is recommended. Your dog's undercoat prevents them from becoming too hot by keeping cooler air next to the skin and their fur protects them from sunburn, allergens, and insects. Nails that aren't kept well trimmed can trap bacteria and cause infection. *Regular Brushing: Be sure to brush regularly with the right tool for your dog to prevent mats and ensure air can circulate against their skin. *Ear Care: If your dog loves to swim, be sure to check the ears regularly. Dogs whose ears fold over are especially vulnerable to infection. A gentle wipe on the inside earflap with a cotton ball can help! *Paw Care: Protect pups paws from asphalt, concrete, dirt, and sand, all of which can hold a lot of heat on hot days. To find out if the ground is too hot for your dog to walk on, place your hand comfortably on the pavement for ten seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws. If your dog's paws are looking a little rough, ask about our soothing paw balm. If they are red or pink in color or blistered they need a vets care. Mesh booties can be a great option! *Keep Them Cool: Small and short-legged dogs and flat-faced breeds are particularly susceptible to overheating. Humidity and a high index is hard on all dogs. Educate yourself about the signs of heat stroke in dogs and be vigilant. Time your walks to the cooler parts of the day, walk on grass and in the shade as much as possible, and never leave your dog in your car or RV even for a few minutes.
