Dear Valued Clients,

You may have read reports of a new respiratory illness affecting dogs in some regions of the U.S. Our team is closely monitoring the situation and wanted to share our current understanding of the illness to keep you informed.

What we know: It is a respiratory infection in dogs that’s been reported in various U.S. states. The illness is difficult to detect, and animal health officials are working to identify the cause and level of concern.

Common Symptoms: Coughing, sneezing, nasal and eye discharge, lethargy, anorexia and fever, with symptoms resembling what’s commonly known as “kennel cough.”

How to best protect your dog:

• Vaccinations: Ensure your dog is current on appropriate vaccinations, especially for Bordetella and Bivalent Influenza.

We are strongly encouraging you to bring your canine companion in 7 days before their next drop off visit (boarding, grooming, bath, or drop-off appointment, etc.) to have their bordetella and bivalent influenza vaccines updated, and avoid waiting until the day of drop off.

• Limit Contact: Reduce contact with unfamiliar dogs. Increased contact may raise the risk of exposure to respiratory pathogens.

We are ensuring all appropriate safety measures and protocols are in place for patients staying in our facility and do not allow pets who are showing symptoms of respiratory illness to be dropped off in our facility.

• Keep Sick Dogs Isolated: If your dog shows symptoms, contact us and isolate them from other dogs.

• Visiting the Vet with a Symptomatic Dog: When arriving at our clinic, avoid the waiting room; keep your dog in your car and call us at 281-693-7387 for next steps.

This sweet baby is in search of a home for Christmas. Max was found by one of our employees roaming the streets and was brought into our clinic for a check up. He is currently being fostered and gets along great with other dogs. Max will be coming to his new home with up to date vaccines appropriate for his age. Sadly, many people will avoid being around, seeing, or adopting a pit bull because of the way that they have been portrayed. This leads to many shelters unfairly euthanizing these wonderful dogs because pit bulls are often the last breed people would consider adopting.
