Beginning TODAY, October 1, 2023, a new provision in Florida's dangerous dog law effectively PROHIBITS local governments from banning or regulating specific breeds of dogs.

Florida passed a law in 1990 that BANNED the passage of breed-specific ordinances in the state. However, that 1990 law allowed "home rule" cities to keep their breed-specific ordinances.

The new law REMOVES that grandfather provision.

This change effectively nullifies *ALL* existing breed-specific ordinances in Florida, including Miami/Dade County, one of the longest standing breed-specific ordinances in the country.

As of today, dogs will be judged by their individual behaviors throughout the entire state of Florida. Dogs will no longer be singled out by legislation because of their breed or physical appearance.

As it should be.

Congratulations, Florida, for overcoming breed discrimination!

I've tried 3x to say how I feel and 3x I've deleted it. There are no words, nothing I can say here anyway. Wonder what other pos officials roam those halls. Too many to count I reckon.
