In everyday life, “focus” means the ability to give full attention to something. But did you know that when it comes to dog training, focus is just as essential?

If a dog can’t focus, it can’t learn—simple as that! That’s why teaching your dog to focus on you (and not distractions) is one of the most important skills in training.

For example, when teaching a "sit" command, it’s not just about sitting—it’s about staying in that position while giving you full attention, no matter what’s going on around you. Whether it’s another dog, a person walking by, or a treat on the floor, the goal is to help your dog stay calm and focused on YOU. This is the foundation for a successful "sit/stay," where your dog learns to hold its position until released.
