On a Robbins girls trip to Philly, New York, and Boston.

Philadelphia with my beautiful niece Violet and her husband. Violet lives in Old City in a building which used to be a hoop skirt factory. We loved Old City!

And now we’re with my good friend, Nicolette who lives in NYC. She and her family are absolutely delightful and making our NYC visit delightful as well.

The ultimate Potty Training Chart

In addition to utilizing this flow chart, try these pro tips!

-For potty training, schedules and tracking are game changers! Puppies have their own unique "potty rhythm". Some puppies it is 30 minutes after they eat, some its 5 minutes. Keeping track of when your puppy goes potty will help you know your puppies "potty rhythm".

-It can be easy to forget how young your puppy is. Unwanted behaviors often present them selves more when a puppy is overestimated, and tired. Especially with multiple family members, it can be hard to note how long the puppy has been out of their crate. Overstimulation leads to nipping, chewing, wild behavior that feels incontrollable. Keeping a schedule will help you know how to move forward, because you recognize where the puppy has been.

-Keeping a schedule for the first few weeks is important for us too. When you keep track of your puppies daily life, you are living with intent.

-We created a schedule for you, as part of our 14 day crate and potty training challenge. It will track potty breaks, accidents, crate time, behaviors, food, treats, water and training.

Check it out in our bio!

You might dream of owning a fun and well-behaved dog, but your furry friend may have a mind of its own. The dog jumps up on people, pulls at the leash, and ends up taking you for a walk instead of the other way around. Jason Robbins, from Cornerstone Dog Training, shares where you can […]

From this…to this, all within a week of time. I love Utah spring weather!

Even if it snows, you know it’s not going to last long. The dark green grass, cool mornings, warm afternoons, chirping birds, blossoming trees, tulips, and snow-capped mountain tops leading down to green valleys.

Every season has its beauties, if my eyes are open to them.

Our weekend was beautifully full of music: music that was full of heart, testimony, and power! Millennial Choirs and Orchestras performed 4 stunning concerts in Salt Lake. I’m grateful 5 of my kids got to perform! Also grateful I was able to help 200 elementary-aged kids be organized and where they were supposed to be for three days straight (thanks to Jason for taking over everything on the home front). My feet ached, but my heart was full.

If you haven’t been to an MCO concert before, prioritize going to the next one. I promise it’s worth your effort to get there!

(Sorry my large cooler pushed you out there, William😂)

We missed the blossoms, but still had a beautiful Sunday evening walking around the State Capital building.

We had no idea it was such a hot weekend-hangout destination. There were so many people enjoying picnics, yard games, having photos taken, and even dance practice.

Beautiful weather, beautiful place. I love living here!

Kennel or Crate?

Around here we use the term simultaneously. We are referring to the appropriately sized enclosure that is a safe space for your dog.

How do you know it’s appropriately sized? As if the dog has enough room to go in turn around and lay down we don’t want it to be too big because it can cause potty problems, and give the dog too much space to worry about. if you’re wondering if your kennel or crate is too big or too small send us a picture! We’d love to tell you.

you can listen more about crate and kennel training on our podcast episode 65 of Puppy Training Principles podcast titled “Kennel or Crate?”

We love Easter! We had a little Passover meal with bitter herbs (we used horseradish), lamb, flat bread, and grape juice.

We talked of the events of the first Passover, Christ’s Passover dinner that we now call “The Last Supper”, and of Christ’s atonement and resurrection.

During the dinner, we hold the horseradish in our mouths and it burns all the way up through the nasal passages. Then as soon as you take a bite of lamb, the burning immediately vanishes.

We hope our kids remember WHO takes away the burning of sin and daily burdens: The Lamb.

Happy Easter, friends!

Are there simple Easter traditions that your family enjoys? I’d love to hear about it!

THIS is why we see so much separation anxiety.😬

In March 2020 it felt like the world, pretty much shut down. And people were left in their homes and needed the companionships of our canine friends. But what most didn’t realize or understand was just because they were home, their dogs still needed structure and crate time.

2020 did create a lot of separation anxiety, but not in the way that you think. It’s not because your dogs weren’t able to get out and see other people and other dogs that may play a small role, but the big factor in separation anxiety and 2020 was that our dogs didn’t learn how to be alone I’d be OK.

Because we were always home that’s how they grew up. And so when we started to get out more and change up the schedule and the routine, the anxiety started to really set in.

If you are still dealing with the residual, separation anxiety from 2020 with your dog, or you were getting a new puppy, and you want to prevent separation anxiety follow these tips!

Prevent house arrest because you can’t leave your dog and have them crate. Trained in two weeks. Check out our Crate training challenge at cornerstonedog.com!

The girls and I had an “Anne and Art” weekend. We each had our art projects we played around with while we watched the ENTIRE Anne of Green Gables (the 1980s version with Megan Follows). It’s a busy life, but someone’s got to do it.

We also spent three beautiful, leisurely hours reading at the cutest little bookshop in Spanish Fork. It’s called “Poppy Books.” It was so cozy and welcoming. Check it out if you’re ever in Spanish Fork!

We loved our girls weekend together! It’s only a few more years that I have both of my girls still living at home. I’m loving this phase of life with the kids!

So why dog training?

Simple, dog training is about personal growth.

If our childhood interests are of any indication, personal development ranked high even then, for both of us.  What 11-year-old reads, “What I Wish I Would Have Known in High School”?  I did.  And I loved it.
Jason’s favorite book throughout high school was “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens.”  He knew that book inside and out.  In fact, when we met in college and had our first date, he called directly after to ask me on the next date (yeah, we had hit it off) and we talked until midnight.

Most of what we discussed was questions from that book.  He asked me things like, “If you had to cross a 6-inch beam 4 stories high to save something, what would you be willing to cross that beam for?”
Jason has purchased and given away so many copies of the book “7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens” over the years.  Probably around 40 copies.  Because these ideas and habits have made such a huge difference in our lives, we want others to have them as well.

SO WHY DOG TRAINING?

So what was the draw to dog training for us?  Jason has always loved animals (his mom often thought he’d grow up to be a vet) and I had had family dogs all growing up.  But it wasn’t just that.

We’ve come to find that it’s the way both personal development and dog training go hand in hand that intrigues us the most.  We love seeing dogs change and grow, but even more so, we love seeing their owners do the same.  We love people!  And how their dogs help them become even better people!

OUR DOGS ARE A MIRROR

And you know what’s SUPER cool?!  How dogs, if we take the chance to notice, are living examples of our own growth journeys.  They can show us in the flesh the amazing transformation that takes place when we focus on our bigger vision and let other distractions fall away.  They’re a mirror.  It’s so easy to see in our dogs!  They change and grow quickly when given the direction to do so.

It’s almost like our dogs are inviting us to come and do the same!

The responsibility falls on us to be the leaders of our canine companions. Be the confident leader your dog knows and loves. Training can get difficult, so we wrote these affirmations for you!

Anyone else see this happening? 🙋‍♀️

Winter break is over, the kids are back in the rythym of things, and you finally feel back to normal. But the dog didn’t get the memo!

They are acting out, pushing boundaries and just overall having a hard time. You might think they just need to “run it out” in the backyard. While physical exercise is very important, the key is to make sure they have those mental boundaries.

Try getting into a routine with the kennel, after physical exercise or just when you notice they are having a hard time.

Use the leash when they are out of the kennel. Practice duration and make them do place or down for longer periods of time. (Yes you will have to correct them a bit more)

Dogs need adjustment time too. The best way to help them is to be consistent with expectations. Try these tips and take a peek at our Chaos to Calm course!
