"Is my puppy old enough to be groomed?" is a question we've heard many times! If your puppy has received their final set of puppy vaccines and is in overall good health, they are READY for an introduction to grooming!
We try to keep your puppy's first appointment as short and positive as possible! Our focus is showing your puppy that being handled by a new person isn't so scary! The blow dryer and hair clippers are no big deal! Toenail trims? Piece of cake. The EARLIER we establish a grooming routine in your dog's life, the calmer and better-behaved your dog will be. Why? Because they TRUST their groomer will not hurt them!
Teddy the Toy Poodle puppy was a perfect little gentlemen for his first appointment! After trimming his tiny toenails and cleaning his ears, Teddy had a warm bath and blow-dry. We turned the dryer down to the quietest setting and let Teddy figure out what was happening! After a quick brushing and combing, we let him inspect the buzzy hair clippers. We kept trimming to a minimum, focusing on the paw pads and feet, the corners of the eyes, and the backside. Teddy's owner sent his favorite treats along so snack breaks were a must! Doesn't he look cute wearing his little bandanna?
Teddy's owner understood the value in starting grooming early in his life! Before his appointment, she helped desensitize him by gently brushing his coat at home, handling his paws, and running her hairdryer when he followed her into the bathroom. These intentional actions helped make Teddy's first puppy groom a big success!
