And so it begins. — Moisture arrives and temperatures drop. Hmpf. Welcome (not welcome) winter. Seems like a good time to mention that we are accepting new boarders. Come enjoy dry and reliable indoor riding conditions for these crummy months ahead! Visit MountainRoseRanch.com for more info.

I will never tire of watching a sunset from between a pair of furry ears. Beats a beach eve . — Though maybe does not beat watching a sunset between a pair of furry ears while on a beach! 🤔 Anyone ever have that experience before? Sounds like a bucket list item to me!

In the Collective Marks section of all of our national dressage tests, there are two score boxes for the rider. The first of these is for “position and seat.” What the judge assesses to determine this score are elements of equitation that are the foundation for effective communication with the horse. A correct, balanced, and independent seat is necessary for successful training and competition.
The test sheets list five directive ideas that the judge considers in formulating the collective mark for rider position and seat:
* Alignment
* Posture
* Stability
* Weight placement
* Following the mechanics of the gaits.

In this first part in this new series from USDF Connection magazine, Jayne Ayers looks at how judges evaluate the rider in the dressage tests, beginning her focus with the first directive: “alignment”.

Squeezed in one more amazing weather fall ride before the wet, cold and soon coming snow arrive starting tomorrow. On a day this fab it is hard to believe that the reality of a Nebraska winter is in fact fast upon us — so it is probably a good time to mention that we do have a couple of winter board spots remaining.
