Example ofmatti g we wont brush out on a chow recently in our salon.
Humanity before vanity
This is a phrase that we recently heard and it describes perfectly our position on matting. We’ve had quite a few issues recently so we want to make our position clear.
We do understand how much work goes into maintaining a thick coat. 5 of our dogs need regular grooming and with as busy of a schedule as we have, it’s not always easy. Maintaining these coats means multiple times a week fully brushing out their coat to the skin. If they get wet, they should be dried and brushed. Many people try to brush regularly, but don’t get all the way to the skin. This leaves the top portion looking brushed out, but the portion closer to the skin stays tangled and can become matted or even start to form a pelt. This can be very painful for the dog as they’re tight and pull at their skin.
At a certain point, the matting is impossible to get out and requires being shaved. If it’s bad enough, we may even recommend you go to the vet to have them done under sedation to prevent them from being cut as much as possible. Before this, though, there’s a point when it is possible to brush out. We have dematting tools and we use them regularly with small amounts of matting. However, we refuse to brush out large amounts of matting all at once from a dog. Not only is it extremely painful, but it could potentially damage their skin. In these cases, we will recommend shaving underneath the matting and starting over. This isn’t something we do because we want to, we do it because we refuse to torture dogs for hours brushing out painful matting just to get a certain look. If a longer cut is desired, more maintenance is required both at home, and at a groomer.
All of this is to say, if you don’t want your dog shaved, you have to brush them and do it correctly. We will not brush out large amounts of matting and if that’s what you want, we are not the salon for you.
We refuse to put dogs through hours of painful brushing because you didn’t keep up on th
Hello!
Due to the icy conditions, we are closed for today. We will evaluate if we can open tomorrow later tonight. Stay safe everyone!
Pepper enjoyed her brief walk on the ice 😂
We absolutely had to post this video! This is a training session with the cute pup up front, Dutton. He’s working on down among other things. Behind him, you’ll notice 4 daycare dogs (Ranger, Stark, Lucy, and George) all of whom have done training with us. As Trevyn worked on down with Dutton, those four kept going down and up hoping for cookies!
We love celebrating training victories with our clients and this was a huge one! Griffon absolutely loves everyone and has struggled with pulling at other people for attention. This video was from the last class of his advanced obedience class. It just goes to show you what a little hard work can accomplish! Way to go Griffon and his mom, you guys rocked it and improved so much together!
Stealth worked with Trevyn our trainer over a couple weeks to develop some skills! 🐾 Here’s the two working on leash manners and a couple other things! Stealth made so much progress!
First session teaching Kizzy how to ring a potty bell 🐾 she’s such a smart girl! And just about 4 months old ❤️
Stark’s Novice Trick Dog video test! We had so much fun with this! He had to be 4 months old, so we waited until the 4th to send it in.
If you didn’t know, our trainer is an AKC evaluator and you can send in videos like this to get a title for your dog! Just send us a message with any questions!
Teaching Stark (3 months old) to push a button! We love watching the puppy mind work 🐾❤️
Another process video, this time of Reggie ❤️ She’s so good for the whole thing! 🐾
Here’s another explanation video with the adorable Bailey! Enjoy! 🐾
Bleu lost A LOT of coat during his deshed! This video was after quite a lot of drying had taken place. He felt so much better by the end! 🐾😊
