Nothing makes my heart happier then finding perfect homes for horses.
These horses are living their best life.
I do a small horse rescue taking in 1-3 horses at a time and preparing them for adoption to forever homes. I run a kid's camp to fund my dream.

Dogs and cats
I go to the pound to rescue a dog or cat. I know it cost a little more than free pets in front of the store, but it is worth it to me to save a life.
Plus they have been spayed, and health checked. And the money helps other pets.
Horses
I want a horse. I don't want to spend a lot of money. I came to the rescue to get one cheap, even free. I'm going to low ball your already cheap fee. You need to eat every dime you put in to the horse and pay me to take it.
It's not easy
Running a rescue is not an easy task.
Many do not grasp the enormity of it.
Just feeding the horses is a lot of money. Add in bills that include farrier, worming, vetting, etc, and you're well on your way to the poor house.
The ranch requires upkeep, and despite offers of help, most of the time help is just coming over and riding horses.
I love connecting humans to horses. But there needs to be a happy medium of give and take.
It's just so easy for people to take and not pay it forward.
If you cannot donate $ to the ranch, then groom a horse. I mean really give the horse an enjoyable brushing. Not 10 seconds either side because you rode them. Love them, connect to them, appreciate them.
Clean a paddock.... Please.
Offer to help in some aspect.
It's not easy
Deciding whether to put horses down or just wait until next winter.
Sometimes horses will be teetering on wellness. Or they are old and struggle in the winter to keep up to weight.
I know it seems cruel, but there are times that an animal is better off in heaven. This is the hardest decision a horse rescue can make. But ultimately it is selfish to keep an animal alive for your own benefit. What is best for the horse? I struggle immensely over this. I want to do the right thing, by every one, yet not everyone agrees and I continue to go back on my decision.
In the past I have let the vet make the decision. That takes the burden off of me. But alas my favorite gelding of many years was vetted then died shortly after. I feel he suffered waiting for test results. My heart hurts over this still. I knew he was close, but I couldn't make the decision when I needed to. It is heartbreaking to think of this.
It's not easy
Dealing with humans. Often times people expect something for nothing. They use you and move on to others. That wouldn't be so bad, but what really hurts is the poison on their tongue. Slander and hatred. I do this for horses and I include children in my program as a win win. But when older children/ adults get involved, there will likely be drama. Is it helpful to bash others, cause drama, or simply be an as***le? What do you gain from this?
Just saying people need to look at things as a whole.
Consider the past, and the present of accomplishments. The horses that were saved, children that had great experiences, and people who enhanced their lives just by being a part of it.

They don’t care.
That’s how I explain horses to potential new owners who inquire with me for advice. I don’t ever want to discourage someone from the adventure of owning horses. But I feel it is my responsibility as a horse woman to look out for their future horses by giving them the harsh reality.
They don’t care if you’re sick.
They don’t care if it’s 0 degrees
They don’t care if you don’t have the money this month.
They don’t care if you’re tired.
They don’t care if you had other plans.
They don’t care if it’s the holidays.
They don’t care if you’re at work.
They don’t care if it’s the middle of the night.
They depend on you. They need fed, every day multiple times a day. They need their stalls cleaned / turned out, every day. They need you to bust ice on freezing days, and bring extra water on hot ones. They need you to care for them when they’re sick, and they are FRAGILE. Seriously, they spend 75% of their life trying to die and vet bills are expensive.
But, it will be your greatest adventure. The right horse will care about you. They will care for you on days you need it most.
So, take lessons, come over and hang out with your horse friends for a day, volunteer to help them out. Make sure it’s something you want to commit to because they didn’t ask to be in your care.
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.

Smokes has been doing so good.
He was a miserable mess when he came back, but since then he has been doing so much better.
His attitude has completely turned around and he is back to his sweet self.
He is still an Arabian which lends itself to his hot behavior, but he is not a mean horse.
I feel that he may have been in pain due to an injury he suffered on his hoof, or something else could have contributed but honestly I don't know.
I offer rehoming at $850. And I do offer to take them back if they do not work out.
My refund is 500 or what you paid. Whichever is less.
I feel that at $850. they won't go to auction, and the adopter gets a chance to fall in love and provide a forever home.
*I am a small ranch, and basically do this by myself. My goal is to match otherwise discarded horses with children that wish to build bonds with horses.
I try hard to be fair with everyone. That being said, I have learned that you can't please everyone.
If you would like to adopt Smoky please message me.
