Rural Jews - Silver Spring

Rural Jews - Silver Spring We are working on an urban farming experiment in Silver Spring. Shalom! We are Gabby and Sam. We are not professional farmers. But we do love to grow things.

Chicken by chicken, goat by goat, we are trying to undo our city slicker ways while reinventing our Judaism. We ran a small ranch in rural California, and now we are trying to import some share some of that energy with Silver Spring. And raise animals. And to teach our kids the value of working with land and getting your hands dirty. Come visit. We garden on Sunday mornings. If you want to learn m

ore about composting, food planting, and urban farming, come by and dig some dirt with us. Or come for a Shabbos meal. Or just to pet our dog. His name is Tikkun. And he is a Jewish dingo.

Stage 2 Flower Garden: Corner stumps added, wood secured in the trench (its totally walkable!), and woodchips and leaves added as the first soil making layer. (Our ground is all clay - so soil will need to be made for anything to grow.)

I am thinking of doing an herb garden (rosemary, lavender, terragon, thyme, etc) in the corner so we can access it from the house. (Plus deer don't like herbs.) Back part still needs to be made, but soil making first.

The first trench has been dug, and the trunk cuts are being fitted in. The earth is all clay. Which made digging really hard - but will hold the wood in place really well.
