AWSโ€™ Youth Programs, led by state-certified educator, Brie Roche, provide interactive and creative learning opportunities for children of all ages. Our unique and engaging approach targets three important educational components: literacy, social-emotional learning and animal advocacy. Our fun programs incorporate the animals in our care to help children grow emotionally, socially, culturally and a

cademically. Creative lessons benefit animals and students, inside and outside the classroom. Whether weโ€™re working together to improve literacy skills by reading aloud to a resident pet or learning about animal body language and how it can mirror our own feelings, students participating in AWSโ€™ Youth Programs are more engaged, more compassionate, and more knowledgeable about animals and the world we share.

We had a our last March Furry Tales at McArthur Library this morning featuring our friend Jeff Moulton-Author! Together with Bowie the doodle puppy, Miss Amanda and Jeff read his book Mumford Saves the World in honor of this month's theme of 'Rescues Dog Rock.' Children and their families had a blast singing, dancing, and listening to stories while Bowie patrolled the room for treats.

As always, thanks for having us and allowing the community outreach of Furry Tales so children can learn, play, and read with animals of all kinds!

Our Story

Teaching compassion is an important part of our mission. We take great pride in our engaging humane education curriculums and fun programs, with something for children of all ages. Our Humane Educators creatively and interactively share the importance of spaying and neutering, long-term commitment to a pet, kind animal treatment, proper pet care and more! Programs include Furry Tales Story & Adventure Hour for preschoolers, Pizza with Pets, Half Day Pet Pals and Shelter Helpers for elementary school students, Humane Action League for middle schoolers and Jumping for Joy for high schoolers. We also offer summer camp and vacation camps. Our Humane Educator presents to classroom, day cares and other youth groups. We also offer shelter tours and birthday parties at AWS!
