Gerald's Progress!
Gerald came to us as a shy and scared cat who didn't want attention and feared being touched. But just look at him now! While Gerald is still an introvert and can be shy, he now loves his lap time and has learned to make biscuits. It just goes to show you what patience, persistance, and love can really do!
Gerald is up for adoption now and looking for his happy new home. Will you help Gerald continue his journey of trusting people?! 🐱

𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐡 𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐞𝐫𝐬
Working with both children and pets takes a special and compassionate person, and that’s exactly how we would describe our Youth Programs volunteers! Alongside our Youth Programs Coordinator, volunteers help children visiting with AWS both inside and outside the classroom with fun games, tasks, education and, of course, animals. With programs like Rescue Readers, Furry Tales, and After School Club, there’s a lot to do around here regarding humane education! We’re grateful for the hard work and dedication of our Youth Programs volunteers who assist in teaching compassion, kindness, and care for all creatures!
Meet Winslow! He's a very special cat because he was born with with cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), also known as wobbly cat syndrome. CH is a neurological disorder that causes sudden jerky movements, uncoordinated motion, and loss of balance. This means that Winslow is very shaky on his feet and often falls down a lot or has trouble balancing.
Despite his condition, however, he is a very loving, friendly, and outgoing guy! Cats like Winslow living with CH still thrive and live long, happy, normal lives. They're just a little wobbly! Adopt Winslow today and see just how special and loving these CH kitties can be!

Rabbits are Naturally Curious!
𝔻𝕀𝔻 𝕐𝕆𝕌 𝕂ℕ𝕆𝕎?
𝐑𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬.
Although they can be somewhat timid and cautious, when a rabbit is feeling confident they tend to go exploring! Rabbits love to look down tunnels, dig under blankets, pull up rugs, and fit into smaller spaces. All in the name of curiosity! Rabbits are also crepuscular, which means they're most active at dawn and dusk. So, if you have a sleepy rabbit during the day, that just means they'll need more time to explore their home during the early morning or evening!
Cauliflower, one of our newest residents who is ready to find his happy home, is one curious guy! He loves to rearrange his living space and he never shies away from an adventure. He will fill your home with so much love and lughter!

Daisy & Rose Playing
𝔻𝕀𝔻 𝕐𝕆𝕌 𝕂ℕ𝕆𝕎?
𝐑𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲!
Just like dogs or cats, rabbits play by tossing or pushing objects around with their mouths and chasing after them. When they're really playful, rabbits like to skip and race around their house or playpen like a kid who's had too much sugar. They jump on and off of things and like to run through tunnels or burrow through blankets. If you're lucky, your rabbit might even do a 'binky!' This is when they run and jump and kick out their back legs in excitement. Rabbits really are a joy to watch and play with when they're happy!
Adorable sisters Daisy and Rose really are a prime example of happy bunnies! They love to play with each other and throw their toys around. They also are very curious and are always racing around when someone comes to visit. They will make wonderful companions to their new people!

Rabbits are Unique!
𝔻𝕀𝔻 𝕐𝕆𝕌 𝕂ℕ𝕆𝕎?
𝐑𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐬. They are part of a special class of mammals known as Lagomorpha. Rabbits and hares share this class with only one other animal on Earth; the pika! That means the behaviors, traits, and characteristics that a rabbit displays are almost entirely unique. One thing they do share with a lot of companion animals, however, is that rabbits love to snuggle!
Jupiter is a bunny who loves to be held, pet, and cuddled. He is velvety soft and will often jump in your lap or ask for attention. He also purrs when he's happy, just like a cat! He and his sister Luna are up for adoption together and would make wonderful companions!

We're celebrating World Read Aloud Day and our love of literacy by sharing a sweet moment between one of our Rescue Readers and Bowie, the therapy-dog-in-training!
Rescue Readers brings together elementary/middle school students and resident or therapy pets for a half hour of literary-based confidence building! We love that we can offer this program and help students feel more comfortable with not only reading, but reading out loud! #rescuereaders
