Tis' the season.
3 of our hospice/sanctuary dogs aren't doing well and have needed urgent vet care. The 4th photo, the tiny senior Chihuahua came to us because her owner wasn't able to care for her.
Fundraising hasn't been very successful lately and we need to get our vet bills caught up by the end of the year. Christmas is just a few days away and we know that money is tight for everyone but these babies had no idea what time of year it is or what it meant when they got sick. Please, if you're able to give just a dollar, that will help!
Each of their stories is below followed by ways to donate.
Twyla came to us as a baby, just a couple of days old, with her mom and sister. You may remember their story. Mom and sister were healthy and adopted into wonderful homes. Twyla immediately needed help thriving, she had to be syringe fed, she couldn't suckle from mom or a bottle. She didn't grow a fast as he sister. She was just a little different in many ways. We soon found out that Twyla suffered from malformed kidneys. We knew she'd have a shortened life but we've promised to make that life the best we possibly can. Fast forward to almost 2 years later and Twyla has enjoyed the life of luxury with her incredible foster family. Recently our vibrant, wild, active little girl has started losing weight. 2 days ago she showed us a vet different side of herself, she was wobbly, lethargic and not interested in doing anything. She was immediately seen by our partner vet, bloodwork done and a treatment plan put together. He diet has been changed, supplements added, daily fluids to address dehydration and we're reevaluating her daily.
Rosa came to us all the way from Baton Rogue as a senior on the euthanasia list. We were able to save her last minute. She was ok health wise but had trouble adjusting and interacting with her foster family. It took her nearly a year to truly adjust, apart being a nervous senior we decided it was best she become a Dog Days sanctuary dog. She's done well being aloof and living her life on her terms. Yesterday she had a scary episode at her foster home, it was as if she'd had full blown dementia when she had no signs in the past. She was inconsolable for several hours, stumbling, walking in circles through the house compulsively, leaning on walls to not fall and almost dragging a back foot. She was taken in for a full physical and bloodwork. The physical found nothing or of the ordinary and we're waiting for the bloodwork results.
Charlie hasn't been with us for very long but we love him dearly just the same. He came to us having cluster seizures. We ran tests, got medication established and got the seizures under control. At least for a time they were. Charlie had another bout of cluster seizures again early in the week. His foster parents have been able to catch them quickly and he's come out of them safely, though extremely taxing on him and needing attention after each. We've been very fortunate at this point that he's been able to bounce back from the seizures without any lasting damage.
The last picture is a little girl that came to us yesterday, her name is Lilo. She's 13 years old and her owner found himself in hard times unable to care for her. As you can see she got a wound on her cheek, it actually goes all the way through her cheek. She saw the vet today, she got bloodwork, her cheek addressed and medications, her ears were really bad so those cleaned and medicated, her a**l gland were very impacted so they were emptied as well. She has a mammary tumor, needs a dental with extractions and too be spayed. She needs a good groom as well. We'll see what he bloodwork results are to proceed.
Again, if you're able to donate a single dollar, it will help! All of the dogs in our care have had and continue to have costly medical needs.
