🐾 Pet of the Week🐾

Meet Wilson, our amazing 3.5-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier who has stolen all of our hearts here at Horse Heaven Hills Pet Urgent Care! 💕 This sweet pittie has been through quite the journey, and we’re thrilled to share some wonderful news with you.

Wilson was diagnosed with heartworm back on 2/28/2024, shortly after his adoption from Texas. 🐾 His loving owner brought him to us for regular treatments, and this brave guy took everything in stride. 💪 On 8/9/2024, during his routine acupuncture treatment, we decided to do a heartworm test just to check his progress—and to everyone’s delight, Wilson tested negative! 🥳 His owner was absolutely thrilled, and so were we! Wilson has truly shown what a fighter he is. 🦸‍♂️

When he’s not being a brave survivor, Wilson loves his walks, snuggling, and of course, napping. 💤 He’s a total cuddle bug who knows how to enjoy the simple pleasures in life. But one thing Wilson *does not* enjoy is water. 🚫💧 He’s not a fan of getting his toes wet and prefers to stay dry and cozy!

His mom says he’s not very photogenic, but we beg to differ—just look at that sweet face! 🥰 We’re so proud of you, Wilson, for overcoming heartworm and being the sweetest boy ever. Keep shining, and know that we love you so much! 💖

🐾 Day of Relaxation: The Struggle is Real😴

When you fall asleep on the job... and wake up to a mountain of doggy duties! 😱

1. Catch the mailman before he escapes again! 📬
2. Give the best puppy eyes for an extra treat 🍪
3. Protect the office from the squeaky toy invasion 🐾
4. Check every window for suspicious squirrels 🕵️‍♀️

Our office dog Nona had the best nap, but now she's in full 'uh-oh' mode trying to catch up! 😅

Enjoy your Day of Relaxation, but don’t snooze too long—those tasks won’t finish themselves! 🐶💤

🚨 Parvo Disease in Dogs: What You Need to Know 🚨

Parvo is a highly contagious and dangerous virus that primarily affects puppies but can also impact unvaccinated adult dogs. This virus attacks the intestines and weakens the immune system, leading to severe symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea (often bloody), and extreme dehydration. In some cases, it can even be fatal if not treated promptly.

Two days ago, our little patient Papa, a 16-week-old dachshund, came in with parvo. He’s receiving intensive treatment, and we’re doing everything we can to help him recover.

What You Should Know:
- Transmission: Parvo spreads through direct contact with an infected dog or contaminated objects like food bowls, leashes, or even the ground where an infected dog has been.
- Symptoms: Vomiting, severe diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, and dehydration are common signs. If you notice these symptoms in your dog, seek veterinary care immediately.
- Prevention: The best way to protect your dog is through vaccination. Puppies should begin their vaccine series at 6-8 weeks old, with booster shots every 3-4 weeks until they are 16-20 weeks old.

Let’s keep our furry friends safe! Make sure your pups are up-to-date on their vaccines and be vigilant for signs of illness. Sending lots of love and healing vibes to Papa as he battles this virus. 💙🐾

✨Pet of the Week: Winston✨

Say hello to Winston, our gentle giant! 💙Winston is a 2-year-old Mastiff who weighs in at a whopping 204 lbs, but don’t let his size fool you—he’s as sweet as they come! This big boy visited us yesterday for his neuter, and we’re thrilled to report that he did an incredible job⭐. Winston was brave and cooperative, making the entire process smooth for both him and our team.

When Winston isn’t charming everyone at the clinic, he’s enjoying his favorite activities: going for long walks and playing with his brother. His playful spirit and loving nature make him a joy to be around. We’re so lucky to know him, and we absolutely adore this gentle giant.

Wishing you a quick and comfortable recovery, Winston! We can’t wait to see you back on your paws, enjoying life to the fullest. 🐶💙

Feel better soon, buddy! 🐾

🌊 Important Update: Blue-Green Algae Alert for Pet Owners 🌊

Blue-Green Algae, actually a bacteria called Cyanobacteria, is a dangerous presence in rivers, lakes, and ponds—including along the Columbia River shorelines. This algae produces two main toxins, Microcystins and Anatoxin-a, which can be lethal to pets. Microcystins attack the liver, while Anatoxin-a targets the nervous system, with symptoms appearing within minutes to hours depending on exposure.

⚠️ Recent Update from Our County's Health District:
The latest water sampling on 7/22/24 detected toxin levels below the recreational threshold at Leslie Groves Swim Beach and Howard Amon Parks in Richland. However, as we approach the worst time of year (Aug-October) for algae toxins, it’s crucial to be cautious. Dogs are especially at risk, as they tend to ingest large amounts of water and green material along shorelines.

If your pet shows signs of vomiting, diarrhea, or neurological symptoms after being in a body of water, seek veterinary care immediately. Stay safe, and always be cautious when near bodies of water where algae may be present.

🐾 Next Sampling Event: 8/12/24

🐾 Pet of the Week: Daisy 🐾

Meet Daisy, a lively and friendly 2-year-old French Bulldog! Daisy has been a cherished patient at our clinic for a year, and every visit with her brings so much joy to our team. Recently, she came in for her Cytopoint injection—we want to ensure our precious Daisy isn't itchy and stays comfortable. 🐶💉

Daisy is full of life and has a personality that lights up the room. Here are some fun facts about her:
💤Daisy loves her beauty sleep and takes her nap time very seriously.
🍖This little foodie enjoys her meals and never says no to a tasty treat.
🚗Daisy absolutely loves going for car rides, especially when she gets to stick her head out the window and feel the breeze.
🏕️This adventurous pup enjoys camping trips and exploring the great outdoors.
🛁 Unlike many dogs, Daisy actually enjoys taking baths and splashing around in the water.
💪Don't be fooled by her small size; Daisy loves to act tough and strut her stuff.

Daisy is the baby of the house and she definitely knows it! She loves being pampered and getting all the attention she deserves. We are incredibly grateful to Daisy's mom for being an amazing client and for sharing Daisy with us. We love you, Daisy! 💕🐶🚗🛁📸

🌟🦎 Meet Mr. Goodboy! 🦎🌟

We're excited to introduce you to Mr. Goodboy, a 6-year-old iguana who recently visited us on 7/15. Originally purchased from Petco as an itty bitty guy, with excellent husbandry and lots of love, Mr. Goodboy has grown into an impressive 16.5-pound tank! 🦖

Mr. Goodboy came in because his owner suspected he might have eaten some gauze and found a staple. Fortunately, he’s in good hands and is recovering nicely! Dr. Vang took great care of him, ensuring he’s back to his usual self soon.

This big guy loves spending time in his owner’s yard and enjoys climbing his owner like a tree. It's amazing to see how much he's grown and thrived with the right care. 🏡🌳

Interesting Fact: Did you know that iguanas have a special "third eye" on the top of their heads? This parietal eye can detect changes in light and helps them sense predators from above! 👁️✨

Let's give a big shoutout to Mr. Goodboy and his dedicated owner for providing such fantastic care! 💚

🩷🐾 Cutest Patients: Sophie & Joy! 🐾🩷

Last week, we had the pleasure of meeting two of the cutest pets ever—Sophie, a 6-year-old Golden Retriever, and her adorable 6-week-old baby, Joy! 😍 Despite their sweet faces, these two were unfortunately dealing with giardia.

🦠 What is Giardia? Giardia is a parasite that causes gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea, stomach cramps, and nausea. It's usually contracted through contaminated water or food. But don't worry, with the right treatment, pets can recover quickly and get back to their playful selves!

Sophie's and Joy's mom drove almost 4 hours to come see us, showing just how much she loves and cares for her furry family members. 🥰 They were seen by the amazing Dr. Ott and their vet assistant Bella, who made sure they received the best care possible. We're happy to report that they are currently being treated and are on the road to recovery! 🌈

Let's send lots of love and healing vibes their way! 💕🐶
