We have decided to countdown to Giving Tuesday this year, which is December 3, 2024, so we can showcase our story, our volunteers, and our dogs to you! Giving Tuesday doesnât have to be just one day this holiday season, and we sincerely hope you will consider donating to us when youâre deciding what organization(s) to give to as 2024 winds down.
So, to kick us off, we would like to remind you of who Mikey was and how our rescue got started. Mikey was a beautiful and friendly black lab who found himself abandoned by the people he once trusted. Mikey spent several months at a shelter, slowly losing hope. Understandably, after being locked in a kennel in an overcrowded shelter for months on end, Mikey exhibited kennel stress and tried to bite shelter staff. They deemed him unadoptable and he was euthanized. That very day, a woman who had heard about Mikey, arrived at the shelter to foster him. Mikeyâs chance at a new life came too late.
Mikey's Chance Canine Rescue was founded in 2008 to give other dogs a chance at life, one that Mikey did not get. We honor Mikey by never naming a dog in our rescue Mikey, as he is the one and only. With the help of our amazing fosters and volunteers, as well as community support, we have worked hard over the past 16 years make sure that the same unbearable fate that Mikey faced, doesnât happen to another precious soul.
Take, for example, the dog featured in this picture, Edwinn - a 4 year old Border Collie. He came to us as an owner surrender and because of our mission and with ongoing support from our community, we were able to take him in, keep him out of a shelter, and give him a chance at finding a loving family.
We rely entirely on donations to continue our mission. Therefore the support we receive directly impacts our ability to continue to rescue dogs, whether they are from a shelter, owner surrender, or found abandoned. Right now, the need is greater than ever. We know money may be tight and we donât take for granted what it means to receive a donation from you. Please know that any amount is greatly appreciated.
Our goal for Giving Tuesday is $5,000. Please donate, every dollar makes a difference! And if you cannot donate, please share our message.
