Color coordinated clients are crazy cute! (Can you say that fast five times? ) đĽšđ¤Ł
Letâs find it! If your dog gets overaroused on a walk, take them a safe distance away from the stimulus and allow them to sniff for a treat scatter. This is also some good old fashioned energy releasing, calming olfactory enrichment to add for fun on every walk, or even just in your back yard!
Repair person coming? A patio snuffle and treats scattered in the grass keep the crew distracted and enjoying using their noses!

Trigger stacking: When one stressful situation is followed by another, then another after that, and another after that until we, or our dogs, have had enough and can even get a hit of dopamine from an angry outburst.
Did you know it takes up to 24 hours to clear the stress hormone cortisol from a stressful event? Please be mindful of this both for yourself and for your pupsâŚespecially as we may decide itâs time increase our outdoor walks in neighborhoods that may feel like war zones to our dogs due to their busyness AND ALSO as we approach fireworks season!! đđ§¨
Always! Lolol!
I have lately had a few more than the usual number of lovely pups coming to my classes with human reactivity. I am very excited to keep my toolkit for helping these dogs and families growing!!

This powerfully effective technique is used to help socially shy dogs master the intricacies of feeling comfortable interacting with and being around people. This is a dog-centric technique that is force-free, and one that does not use negative reinforcement. Instead, respect for the dogâs boundaries, arousal and abilities are combined with nuanced observation and engagement of SEEKING to help build the dogâs skills. Using thin slices, Treat-Retreat helps the dog develop skills in comfortable ways that are readily generalized.
Why take this course? Our students explain it best.
"A superb, joyful and powerful learning experience.
The structure and content of this course are superb. As you work through the steps, you can feel the level of thought and attention to detail that has gone into making sure you have what you need to progress, and I was very aware that the creators really cared about my learning experience being a happy one. The text and video materials are first rate and the tutors are exceptional; delivering support and feedback with expertise, humour, kindness and patience.
The technique itself is a game-changer and I feel privileged to have learned such a powerful and flexible tool to help families with dogs who struggle around people. Seeing the changes in the dogs as they learn and progress is humbling and joyful.
It changes lives! Suzanneâs wealth of knowledge and experience and her generosity as a teacher are inspiring and heart warming. The warmth and humour in her delivery is captivating and just great fun as well! And the well-being of dog is always, always at the centre of everything, just as it should be. I am delighted to recommend this course to any trainer who wants to learn a powerful and effective technique they can trust and which makes perfect sense to dogs." - Sarah W., Trainer

Happy Easter to all!
Multi-dog household tip: Teach the crew to station!
Do you work with a behavior consultant that spends their free time continuing to add to their scientific knowledge of dogs and their behavior? HmmmâŚ.maybe you should.
When itâs too cold to have fun outside, we have fun inside! We did some treadmill work, station practice, trick training and played with old enrichment toys (yard sale ball pit and puzzle) and a new enrichment toy (popsicle ball that has a treat that you put inside). Each dog was engaged in carrying the ball around and licking for about 30 mins.!!

Heading into 2024 with enthusiasm! Happy New Year everyone! May we all find calm, love, peace, compassion, health and happiness this year!
Merry Christmas!
This is everythingâŚfor every application of training and learning.
Deb's talk on blind and deaf dogs was so great. While trust and safety is important for ALL of our pets, developing that special social currency with blind and deaf dogs is even more crucial for their wellbeing.
Have a wonderful holiday!
â¤ď¸â¤ď¸ Phillip has been adopted!!! â¤ď¸â¤ď¸
Sweet Phillip is still with us. He is the bestest boy at the rescue. He is so friendly and full of nothing but love. He is 5-6 years old and ready to be loved by a family for the rest of his life.
We snuffled our way through the wait at the vet. We warmed him up for wearing his muzzle by playing 1,2,3. (Zeus has never bitten anyone, but he is very anxious so we wear a muzzle to keep everyone safe.) What do you do to make vet visits more tolerable and safe? 1,2,3 video is in the comments.
Halloween festivities can be scary for our pets. Implement some simple Trick or Treat management to help. Our dogs donât have to be part of the action (although you can see here they think they want to be). Keep them feeling comfortable and safe while all of the little ghosts and monsters get their candy.
I need this shirt!!!â¤ď¸â¤ď¸â¤ď¸
Dog training is not something that is linear. Be patient with your dogâs journey đđž âĄ

I am so excited to be a Certified CGC evaluator! I see some outdoor CGC classes being offered in the future! Yahoo! I can also evaluate for trick dog and AKC Star Puppy titles and certificates.
Dog training is an unregulated industry. Choose someone that is dedicated to growth and education in science based, positive reinforcement training methods.
I have had lots of interest in my reactive dog class at All Breed Training Club of Akron sooooooâŚI am teaching a 3rd Sunday morning class that would start at 12:00! I have 1 spot left in that class! Message me if you are interested because weâve got to move quickly. It starts THIS Sunday!! â¤ď¸âđźđž
Itâs almost time! I canât wait to teach my reactive dog classes soon! Itâs not all about the training and exposure to other dogs/people. Itâs also about how you and your dog are feeling in the space. Enrichment is important. Building positive associations toward things that are worrisome is critical. I hopefully lead by example with the things I give each dog to explore in his/her safe space while they are in my classroom. I care deeply about opening new doors for the dogs and families that join me.
Happy National Dog Day! I would be beyond excited to see pics of your pups!
This beautiful boy is Dewey! A recent grad of Pawsitive Reactions 1 and 2. He and his amazing mom did awesome in classes, and now they can both enjoy hiking and camping more!! Do you know someone with a reactive pup? Send them to All Breed Training a club of Akron! We start on September 10, and would love to have you with us!

Short on time for enrichment before guests arrive? Food scatters in the grass keep my 3 busy for at least 15-20 minutes. Olfaction burns lots of energy so your pup is more relaxed before the guests arrive. (My crew will not get snarky with one another in this context. Some pups would resource guard, so please be mindful of this in multi dog homes.)
Movement puzzles can build confidence and problem solving skills in your pup! Ollie is doing the 2 bowl game here. Check out my Stories to see Oakley doing a different movement pattern. :)
Iâve had a busy day running errands to prepare for my new classroom. Not lots of dog time. Days like this I usually increase other kinds of enrichment. Dinner tonight was a shredding puzzle. My dogs love to shred, and donât eat the cardboard so itâs safe. I was low on recycling so it only involves 2 boxes, each with a portion of their kibble. My favorite is 3. Egg cartons are great for starting with. What are some of your favorite easy enrichment ideas?
This little one is just learning that it is fun to follow a food lure! This provides us the chance to get the positions of sit and lie down on board quickly. Next step, after she practices a bit more with just luring, will be hand signals for sit and down. We âmarkâ the behavior we like with a clicker or a word like âyesâ. The treat will then come to the pup after. This little lady is available from Kanati Creek Kennels. I would be more than happy to help you meet her!
This is a quick view into loose leash walking with sweet Peaches. We add in some âget itâ cues to normalize pace changes as we manage any potential reactivity with dogs we may see on our walk. Overall, she does great with staying on my left. Check out that nice relaxed leash while we walk! Letâs give some love to my new favorite poodle Peaches!!
There is so much more that we can do with our dog than taking them for a walk. Letâs get them thinking! Here is a video of my dog and I demonstrating the Two Bowl Game for a class. In this game our dog ultimately learns to move his/her body in a certain way as they earn reinforcement. (They will ultimately move further and further away from you as they pass an object like a cone.) It is great for problem solving work, and you may find it can build confidence in and relax your pup. If you try it, tell me what you think in the comments!! :)
