Lexington is one lucky guy!! If not for a call from one of our volunteers to Lexington’s owner, he was scheduled for euthanasia this week.
Lexington has been listed with us for a while, but he’s 10 and his owner said he has frequent inside potty accidents , in the owner’s opinion because he’s mad about not enough attention, and that Lexington has separation anxiety, so Lexington hasn’t attracted any applicants willing to work with him,
Last week an application came in for Lexington, so an adoption volunteer called the owner to discuss. The owner said they were tired of cleaning the carpet and had Lexington scheduled for euthanasia.
When we heard that, we put out a plea for foster and in a short time, a volunteer said “ I can’t let this senior die for having accidents in the house.”
The foster brought Lexington to her home that afternoon.
Now here’s the interesting part. Lexington has had zero potty accidents in the foster’s house. He displays no separation anxiety, he gets along with the other dogs, he likes toys , and every single person that meets Lexington is in love!
We don’t understand how anyone would choose to end this sweet boy’s life.
Here is what Lexington’s foster mom says:
If it weren’t for all his grey, you’d never be able to guess Lexington’s age. This smaller-than-normal beagle is such a happy guy. He walks around wagging his tail, and has even greeted us with excited zoomies when we arrived home. He loves to squeak toys and will self play, tossing them around. Is always happy to go for a walk (although he slows down pretty quickly), and really loves to snuggle and be loved on. And he seems to love everyone.
He has barked to be let out to potty and seems to be housebroken, although being a senior he just may want to go out more frequently than a younger dog — although he’s fine overnight and has been ok for 5-6 hour stretches during the day (haven’t tried longer yet).
He does bark. His vision may be a little impaired because he does bark at shadows/things that aren’t there and at noises outside. And he does bark for a bit when someone leaves the house, or if you move rooms and he doesn’t know where you are. So an apartment may not be the best choice.
He does fine with the dogs in our house. Mostly just exists near them.
He is a really, really sweet dog. He would just love a family who wants a companion to give him love and attention for the rest of his years.
