What I noticed in this video is mostly the person walked well next to handler without pulling. Many times slip leads and prong collars are used on dogs that are strong and consistent pullers, and I can imagine in the beginning at least the amount of corrections and strangle sensations the dog must be feeling. This is what a third generation mini bernadoodle looks like at age 11 weeks. Parents met for a puppy consultation to learn what to focus on for the next few weeks until the socialization window closes around approx 16 weeks of age.

This is Snippen - the first lapponian herder ever brought to the US in 2002. (Born 2001). He is Leo’s great grandfather. He started the breed here and now we have multiple breeders and dogs around the country and a new breed club is established ”Lapponian herder club of North America” and are working forwards AKC recognition. What a handsome boy Snippen was.

Two dogs learning to live together in a new household. Time definitely helps, some fundamental skills like going to a station or kenneling up when things gets tense, allowing them to have their own space, working a strong recall and hand touch for immediate space separation and counter condition to the presence of the other dog and more. These dogs love to learn and are doing great.

Today I was so proud of this little girl. First time I was able to touch her and give her scratches and when I stopped, she asked for more! Not all dogs wants to be petted and not by everyone they see. As dog owners, it’s important we advocate for our dogs and don’t say yes to strangers who wants to pet your dog because you feel embarrassed to say no. Not every dog that approaches your space bubble wants to be reached for or petted. Some are just there to investigate you and your smells. Your shoes holds a lot of information! Learn to read their body language. A jawn, a stare, a head turn, ducking their head away from your hand, watching your hand, a shake off, backing away and other signals might tell you they are a bit uncomfortable. Wait to touch them until they ask for it.
