Instead of farming this summer we are doing home renovations to our new house! We have been in our home for maybe six weeks and have updating lighting, sinks, paint colors, the garage door and most importantly a giant fan for our bedroom lol. Three days after moving in our garage door broke so that was a fun little “welcome to home ownership” surprise lol We are slowly getting the house organized and comfortable. It’s been a good change in pace!

I’m not sure exactly what the next chapter is going to fully look like…. But starting off we are super excited to have the privilege of buying our first home. It feels odd not waking up on a farm anymore but I can’t wait to add flower beds and maybe a garden at some point. Im excited for what this summer is going to bring 🙌🏽

We made the hard decision that farmers markets are not in the cards for 2024. When setting out to farm I never dreamed of working with such an amazing organization that helped farms grow and establish their business. Trust me this was the hardest decision but for work life balance markets just did not make sense for us as a business anymore. Thank you for seven amazing season! We will miss you a lot 😢

It’s been a minute since I shared much going on in my life here. With 12 unplanned flights to and from Nashville due to family emergencies/family time and $80,000 worth of crops (almost everything we grew) damaged by elk 2023 closed out to being the worst year of my life. But there were moments like moving to our new space and growing some amazing veggies that were highlights in a dark gloomy year.
Last year my mom and I were supposed to go to our first “away” game together in Nashville on Christmas Eve. With her sudden passing I ruled that idea out. Little did I know between my sister and a good customer friend I happened to make it to Nissan Stadium to see that game and bring mom’s jersey with me. My sister and I even happened to make it on National TV 👀🤭.
Even tho 2024 is supposed to be our 10th season of feels like our first financial. We lost everything last season and with moving to a bigger space our bills skyrocketed. With no financial help from insurance what we can afford to grow and at what scale still seems to be a day to day conversation. We appreciate all the support over the years by each and every customer or support.
Here is to the 2024 Season!

A customer shared this amazing photo of my mom with me yesterday! Lots of my early customers remember my mom showing up every Saturday at the Issaquah market with me to help sell some produce. No matter how sick she was she would be there to support me and help me. The long car rides home making a negative profit but there she was encouraging me to try this or that each week to make more sales. Mom had so many friends at market she would visit every week. I miss her so much!

At the airport to fly home. Mom is still non responsive but we have to go home so we can go back to work. I got to say goodbye to her and tell her how much I love her and promised I would see her soon. I gave her a nice hug and thanked her for everything. We still are no where out of the clear but I’m trying to take it one day at a time.

It’s the start of a new day here in Nashville! Mom had a good night and is moving around a bit (arms and legs) more than yesterday. Surgery went well yesterday!! In short they found two new lesions one of which they got fixed yesterday. Today she goes back to the OR for a second surgery to repair the other lesion that would cause issues down the road. Super thankful for all the support and well wishes. As always taking it one step and day at a time.

For those who have not seen my stories Farmer Cameron and I are back with my mom after a very scary situation Sunday morning. My mom had a very scary brain bleed and went non responsive! 911 was called and taken to TriStar Hospital. She was put on sedation till yesterday morning. Today she is going in for surgery to see why her brain bleed happened and if they can fix it. She is on a ventilator as she can still not breath on her own. Lots has happened between Sunday morning when I got the call till now. Thanks for farmer friends and family for ALL the help back home! Thank you to our followers who have been sending their love. We feel it even if we are way across the country. I will update more later today or tomorrow!

Yesterday I worked super hard on cleaning up the fence line so this winter it’s easier to maintain the fence line. We are brainstorming some ideas on how to manage the elk issue on the farm. Based on patterns we are seeing we are hopeful we can do something this coming spring 🤞🏽

Dear Reader,

Season 9, 2023, has been a long hard season. I'm not a writer so putting feelings to words is not easy. The picture attached to this post is basically how this season went. My body, mind, and soul are broken. After nine seasons it feels like I should have things down right? It feels like I should have the perfect market tables, perfect fields, and perfect business model. I guess the elk had other plans for us this season. In the last season or two we really perfected our planting schedule and market run that we were doing. We found a rhythm that worked and scaled to more mechanical farming so we could meet demand. I guess when you do bigger things you have bigger mountains to fall off of and man did we drop hard this season. I briefly spoke about the elk on our property but in reality that incident damn near put us out of business. With an estimated $90,000 in lost wholesale pricing income we were left with nothing. To date we have not been back to markets... We have hardly sold to any wholesale companies. Most nights I feel asleep silently crying (internally or externally). I have spent the season digging deep into why I became a farmer and why I want to do this job. Most days it's been mentally hard finding the why and the will to do anything. It's now fall and time to clean up the mistakes of 2023 and finish harvesting what little is in our fields. After that we can let the fields rest along with our bodies and plan for my 10th season farming! All I can say is my husband and I have some ideas for our 10th anniversary as a business and we hope that you will all join in supporting us on that journey. ~ Farmer Chris

700 pounds of summer broccoli is in the books after a major heatwave! Years ago I was asked what my favorite crops was to grow and I said lettuce…. It’s changed over the last 8 years. Currently it’s broccoli! Cameron and I have perfected our planting varieties and strategies to get the most out of this crop! Of course weather and elk are hard to work around but season after season we nail this crop and it makes me soooo happy! Next up is fall broccoli season.

I have a feeling we will say “August slipped away into a moment in time” just like June and July did.
