When this is what I saw as I looked up from hours at the sewing machine, it reminded me that you really must do more than work. I will admit late last night when I realized my puppy's eyes were locked on me, her gaze brought tears to mine. I'm going to keep this as a reminder that all work and no play, is not what those who love you, in that world around you, should have to plead a little of your time for. It's time for a break ~ life is too short to work endlessly and ignore those that truly love you.
I'm always grateful for the orders / the work and I will not deny that I thrive on appreciation, a job well done and the ability to have this hobby that helps others and by that, gives me pleasure too. But Mira reminded me last night to think about how I really need to balance all my the priorities.
Still working and look forward to orders but this afternoon I am going to take a little time for me and my dogs that love me. Thanks for understanding us and my little hobby business ... and life.

Still a bit in it's infancy but this new robe is the one that has been a saving grace for me with a big, wavy coated boy dog. Its a lightweight snug lycra robe that is put on the dog while still wet. It has done a wonderful job at keeping those waves under control. As soon as I have more time I hope to tweak it to be the next best thing since sliced bread. :-) for Springers and like size dogs only at this time.

One of the Newest Creations ~ Bitchen Bloomers. These are back pant protectors for the girls who tend to lay their furnishings flat out and urinate on them. There is still places in these bloomers for them to effectively eliminate but their back pants hair is securely held out of the way in these lightweight lycra bloomers.

The ORIGINAL Bib & Belly Robe (B & B Robe) or the p*e coat as many have referred it as. I designed this robe for an english setter handler, at her request, some years ago. The design is to keep the long bib and belly coat from getting in the line of fire when the show ready groomed boys went out to relieve themselves. It is designed to lift the coat out of the way during urination or can also be helpful to assist the stud dogs hitting their marks when breeding. Over the last 10 yrs it has become a huge hit for those needing to keep their boys belly coats protected or out of the way. I have since added some accessories to this robe. The detachable moisture proof leggings or the water proof sleeves come in real handy for those boys that also have a way with urinating on the backs of their front leg featherings. ***ALL FABRICS AND COLOR CHOICES ARE SUBJECT TO CURRENT AVAILABILITY ***

Oh Boy! Belly Band ~ you already know what this is for. Those sprinklers or boys who can't quite hold it. My bands are narrower over the back and made from the same type of material used to make babies cloth diaper covers. Inside I have made a 3 layer flannel pad holder to help absorb the urine.

the Warm Robe ~ These robes are made from double layer fleece and many have a hand knit neck on them. They are machine wash and dry able. (some of the knit necks are even reflective). For use on a cold winter's walk.

Snoods!! Every long-eared dog owners friend! I make two different styles of snoods. One I call the sleeve type, the other the elastic. Almost all of my robes could have a matching snood. My snoods are made from durable, washable stretch fabrics in stretch terry, stretch velvet or lycra.

Show Robes ~ these are the robes made from a single layer of lycra (swimsuit material) or stretch velvets. In my opinion both fabrics have the same effect for durable use. The purpose of this robe is to aid in keeping a freshly groomed show dog ring ready. It helps to keep the dog's fur clean and flat while it adds shine to their coat. The After Bath Robe ~ made of 2 layers of stretch terry cloth. Main purpose of this robe is just that ~ to be put on after the bath or out of the lake, pool, swamp or rain. Any time you need a dog or the area the dog is in, dryer than it is.

Mary’s Dog Robes

We still have the Dog Robe website under reconstruction. Things are happening slower than planned but as evolution goes, I will remain patient and am very hopeful that once it is up it will be so much easier for orders and inquires regarding the garments that I have been making for the English Springer Spaniel. Until it is, I am updating the FB page with hopes to answer a few questions for folks.

1) if you would like to place a dog robe order please email me at [email protected]

2) PLEASE always include your contact information ~ including your full name and mailing address if you are planning to order

3) If you have a current robe and would like another in a similar size, please check out the diagram on what measurements I would need from a robe to re-create it.

4) I will often need specific measurements and unfortunately they don’t include how tall the dog is. ☺ A helpful diagram is on this FB page that shows were the measurements should be taken. Please note that they are basically a snug neck and waist (NOT chest) circumference plus a length of body ~ keeping in mind how far back you would like the robe to fall over the dog’s tail ~ taken at the areas shown on the photo.

5) It is helpful for me to also know how old the dog is (if it is mature or still growing), the s*x of the dog and its coat color is often helpful along with your preferences on colors or if you might like something with a little bling or more conservative in fabric selection. I can then narrow down the current fabric selections I have either in my inventory or in fabric to make something up for you at the time of the order.

*** Helpful Hint:
If you do not have a cloth tape measurer, please don’t use a metal tape. Instead use a leash or long-line of some type (yarn, string, belt) to mark the measurement and take that to a ruler or yardstick. **

Not meaning to play favorites, but since my chosen breed for the last 30+ years is this particular spaniel, I have had a personal need, desire and access to try and create the most efficient garments for the needs of these dogs and their owners.

In the past I have entertained making items for other like breeds, spaniels, many of the setters and some others not so springer-like. I will continue to try and accommodate inquiring folks as best I can, but if the request is for a breed I haven’t yet made a pattern for I have come to realize that as much as I want to help, I lack the additional time it takes to make up these patterns. At this time I am trying hard to not make my robes only Springer exclusive. However, due to time constraints, I do have to prioritize those familiar patterns when it comes to orders on what I do have.

I continue to be mostly a party of one running this little hobby business for well over 10 years now. I enjoy sewing and working on making new and improved items to help not only my needs but the needs of my fellow dog fanciers. I am also happy to help where I can and as time allows.
