Every now and again, I like to share hacks that make our daily life simpler. I found this one on a page I follow. Here is one way to save sheep/goat colostrum that would be VERY handy. What is your favorite hack that YOU use on your farm to make life easier? Comment below!

Helpful hack for all those raising goats. When milking for that nanny goat gold, Colostrum, I found these amazing milk bags at an auction a couple years ago and then later on Amazon. They are fantastic! Highly recommend!

The hold the perfect amount of, up to 6oz, for newborn orphaned or rejected babies. I store colostrum in 2 oz packs for easy warm up under hot water and no waste! It is GOLD you know. And moms only produce it for a short time. Extremely important to have on hand if raising goats.

When freezing the bag makes it so easy to ensure you get all the air out and they seal nicely with the blue caps that come with them. Easy to write on for date labeling.

And lastly…..as you see the Pritchard livestock ni***es fit like they were made for 🤗each other. ❤️ Oh! I almost forgot, they can be washed and reused!! Very durable.

Temps start dropping tonight. I often get asked if we do anything special for our critters…here is our protocol

We make sure they have a clean, dry place to bed down that is out of the wind. We use straw for everyone but our horses (they have shavings and rubber mats). We generally will close up the barns as much as we can (especially at night) to retain what heat is in there.

Clean, heated water so drinking isn’t discouraged by dirty/cold/icy water or frozen water when they need to drink.

Extra hay for the hay eaters - inside their pens and outside - digesting that forage generates heat so we give them as much as they will eat.

Extra feed for the birds

Salt licks/minerals out for the horses, goats and calves - they take in more when it’s cold and will encourage them to drink more water.
