⚠️PUBLIC SAFETY ANNOUMENET ⚠️

We have recently been informed of some potential cases of Canine Distemper in the surrounding areas. This highly contagious virus can infect a variety of wildlife and domestic animals, including raccoons, foxes, skunks, coyotes, and dogs. 😱 It is extremely important that you do not touch ANY wildlife with suspected symptoms.

Distemper is a viral disease that can cause permanent organ damage or even death if left untreated 💀 Distemper is spread through airborne transmission and/ or contact with bodily fluids such as vomit, saliva, urine, and/or diarrhea. Meaning... ANY outside dish that can be used for water/ food intake, can put your pet or other pets at risk 🙅🏼‍♀️🫗🚫

Some symptoms include:
🦝 Discharge from the eyes and nose
🦊 Difficulty breathing / coughing
🦨 GI issues (diarrhea / vomiting)
🐺 Unusual behavior - disorientation or wandering aimlessly
🦝 Tremors / seizures
🦊 Abnormal sightings (being seen in the middle of the day)
🦨 Apparent lack of fear
🐺 Rough coat
🦝 Emaciated appearance
☠️ Death

If your pet has been in contact with an animal that is showing symptoms of Canine Distemper, please call the clinic right away (262-626-2380).

If you see a wild animal displaying symptoms of Canine Distemper, contact a local Animal Control Company to safely remove the animal from the area.

☎️ American Animal Control (414-207-9964)
☎️ PestPop (855-748-8433)

For further information on the disease, check out dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/wildlifehabitat/disease/Caninedistempervirus

STAY AWARE, STAY SAFE 🐾

Blue-green algae can produce harmful toxins that can make people and pets sick. Exposure to these toxins can occur through skin contact, inhalation, or ingestion. Symptoms can develop immediately or over several hours and can include:

🦠 Gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps)
🦠 Fever
🦠 Headaches
🦠 Rashes, blisters, hives, red skin
🦠 Eye, nose, or throat irritation
🦠 Allergic reactions
🦠 Respiratory distress (mild to severe)
🦠 Nervous system and/ or liver failure
💀 Death

If your pet begins to display symptoms, after contact with surface water, please contact us right away (262-626-2380) 🐕🐩🚫🌊

HERE COMES AUGUST, HERE COMES ANOTHER EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH 🌞🏖🧡 This month's shining staff member is Natalie 🙌🏻

Always giving it her all, this girl has been nothing but a dedicated and hard worker since starting at KVC! If you can't find her helping out, she's probably singing to one of her patients 😉😁🎶

Congratulations, Natalie!!

Natalie graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls with a Bachelors Degree of Dairy Science. After a few years of working in the industry, she decided to pursue veterinary school and is a third year veterinary student at Western University of Health Sciences in southern California! She is coming up on 10 years in the veterinary field and has been a technician in a variety of practices. Outside of KVC, she has a passion for dairy medicine, Holstein genomics, and advanced reproduction of dairy cattle. After graduating veterinary school, she plans on heading back home to the herd in Sheboygan County. Natalie loves her Labrador, Case, tuxedo cat, Mitsy, and 2 guinea pigs, Cynthia and Angelica.
