A Cause for PAWS Kewaunee County

A Cause for PAWS Kewaunee County A group of concerned citizens are working to help the lost and abandoned pets of Kewaunee County. Since we don’t have a Humane Society, it is time for action.

It’s time for change, and we need your help.

It’s been so cold the last couple days. What would be better than spending these cold winter days snuggled under this gorgeous blanket? This will be one of the raffle baskets at our fundraiser on February 16th at JW’s Place. Thank you, Anne Reckelberg, for donating this beautiful handmade blanket.

We are starting to collect the donations for our big fundraiser next month, and we’re so very grateful to all of our donors. Look at the absolutely delicious ice cream sundae basket donated by Jackie Romuald. 🍦🍨

We hope you can join us on Sunday, February 16th at JW’s Place in Casco from 11 to 3. We will be drawing the winners of our cash raffle prizes. We will also have lots of basket raffles, 50/50 raffle, a couple special raffles, music, and food and drink for purchase.

The holidays have come and gone. Our big fundraising event is a little over a month away on February 16th, so we are about to be busy, busy, busy getting ready for that.

So before the hard work begins, let’s have some fun and celebrate

We were honored to be invited to speak to the Royal Raiders 4H Club about our organization. Not only did they give us an opportunity to share our mission, our goals and the work we are doing, they asked us to bring along animal guests. So Kiwi (who was once a stray kitten in Kewaunee County) joined us last night to entertain the kids. Even more amazing, the kids collected various items for us to donate to Wisconsin Humane Society and the CLAWS program at 4 Legged Friends. What a great group of impressive young people.

Spaying and neutering outdoor cats is just as important as helping stray animals be reunited with their owners or adopted into a new home if their owners can no longer care for them.

Not all cats are destined to be indoor pets and that’s ok. But in order to control the overpopulation crisis, we need to Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate and Return (TNVR) outdoor cats. After 4 years, one unspayed female cat and her offspring will produce more than 20,000 cats. TWENTY THOUSAND CATS!

One of our goals is to partner with a TNVR organization to spread awareness of TNVR programs and facilitate access to those programs.

The CLAWS program at 4 Legged Friends Veterinary Clinic in Luxemburg has been helping the cats of Kewaunee County for several years.

They will take found cats and kittens from Kewaunee County, provide them care and medical services and then adopt them into loving homes. Oftentimes, they are caring for several litters of kittens (including neonate and bottle-fed kittens) at one time. Although they cannot help all of the kittens and cats found in Kewaunee County, they are doing their part to help.

If you would like to help the CLAWS program, they are always in need of clumping cat litter (preferably Tidy Cats brand), Kitten Chow and Purina brand adult cat food.

We are so grateful for everything the CLAWS program has done and continues to do to make a difference in Kewaunee County.

We want to be clear that we are not a rescue organization.

We do not take in found animals. We do not take in owned animals that need to be re-homed. In addition to the humane societies in neighboring counties, there are a number of excellent rescue organizations in our area that can be of assistance if needed. We are happy to be a resource that can guide you in the proper direction if you need help locating a humane society or rescue organization.

If you find a stray animal, you can contact your local police or sheriff department to see if they can help. You can also contact a humane society in one of the surrounding counties (Door, Brown, Manitowoc) to see if they are able to help by taking the animal.

You can message us if you need assistance with a found animal. Although we are not a rescue and are not affiliated with a humane society, we will do what we can to help if you have found an animal.

Unfortunately, in Kewaunee County, there are not many resources to utilize if you find a stray animal. This is why we are working toward securing a contract with a neighboring humane society to help the unsheltered animals in our county. Once we do that, we will work toward organizing a volunteer group for transporting found animals to the humane society.

Did you know that Kewaunee County doesn’t have its own humane society? Currently, humane societies in surrounding counties are not contractually obligated to take in unsheltered animals from Kewaunee County. Although neighboring humane societies may take in stray animals found in Kewaunee County, many times those who find stray animals in Kewaunee County are turned away and have no place to take a stray cat or dog they have found.

By securing a contract with a neighboring humane society to take in stray animals from Kewaunee County, we will make it easier for people who find a stray to get help for that stray animal.

Giving Tuesday is here and we hope you will support us in our mission to help the unsheltered animals of Kewaunee County. Your donations will help us achieve our vision.

What is A Cause for PAWS Kewaunee County all about?

-OUR VISION-

We are working to help our unsheltered dogs and cats by facilitating a contract with a neighboring humane society, which can then provide healthcare, spay/neuter services, and adoption opportunities.

Just as important is to work with an organization to reduce the overpopulation of stray animals through the Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Return (TNVR) program.

Last but not least, we want to create a cost-effective transport solution for our community to call upon to help stray or injured cats and dogs once we have obtained a contact with a neighboring humane society.

You can make online donations through our fiscal partner, the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation (instructions are in the featured post at the top of this page).
