WILL HUSTLE FOR PET SUPPLIES :- )

Over the years we have collected more than pet food for our local pet families. We found some core pet supplies also helped to keep pet owners with their pets during times of crisis.

These crates, cat carriers and more served to get pets to safety during hurricanes, worked to transport pets to medical appointments and help keep pets safe in their owners homes. These items were always given to the pet femily for FREE.

Learning to properly crate your dogs can save your home, other pets and YOU from unwanted STRESS.

Keeping pets with their people takes more than pet food. It takes resources from this very communuty! It takes time & effort. And most of all YOU GOT TO GET OUT & BE A HUSTLER!

We will be teaching a class this Febuary on how you can do a pet food or supply drive for your favorite rescue, shelter or pet organization. 💥 we all can do our part to give back.

We have never had the opportunity to 💯 let go and show unconditional love to the ladies that made Twisted Oaks Rescue a success!

These beautiful humans donated this pet community thousands of hours of their time. For no reason at all •••• wait yes ••• we all love pets! Over the years we grew to wholeheartedly and unconditionally love one another. We respect each others intelligence. We appreciate each others energy. And when we get together to do something we laugh, love and live our best lives!

Tasha Hyder offered to help us love these ladies with the gift of beauty and photos. Something to alway cherish and honor them for their selflessness. My Sunday Story

I was raised in southeastern WI (Eagle-Palmyra) by a very loving Mom & Dad. At a very young age I was exposed to horses through my mother’s passion. She & Dad bought me a pony at 6 years old and I was forever hooked!

My first 4-H horse was Teddy. A beautiful gently used 19 year old Arabian. A bay with four socks and a blaze. He knew the commands from the ring announcer better than I did. I gained confidence and an absolute love for competition.

I continued riding and competing throughout high school in my local 4-H and with the Arabian Horse Association. We traveled and I shined as an equestrian in my teens. It all came to a close when I decided to give my heart to the US Army at 18 years old. While I served my country, I stayed as far away from horses as possible. The smell of them made me homesick & heartsick for years. 💯💔

Finally, after 8 years, I moved back home to Menomonee Falls WI. I was now mid 20’s and a mom to my daughter, Kailey. I bought my first house and rescued a horse ••• after about a year of time. Sarge, was the love of my life for many years! He helped teach my daughter to ride, we showed and we trail rode so many miles together with a beer 🍺 in hand and horse friends in tow.

When my son Samuel was born in 2012, I decided with working full time and a new baby I couldn’t juggle it all. I stepped away from what I loved to give more time to my children. About a year later we moved from cold Wisconsin to sunny Florida 2014.

In 2017, I sold my property in Menomonee Falls WI and purchased three lots in Keystone Heights, now known as, Twisted Oaks Rescue. We bought a tractor and literally got to work clearing, putting in a well and adding a lean-to for what? RESCUE Horses •••• in December of 2018 I brought home 2 horses from our local kids camp that was closing their horse program.

Fast forward October 5, 2019 •••• my life literally stopped. One of the rescue horses reared when I was mounting. I was able to calm him some but before I could choose to dismount he helped me. Rearing, slipping in the sand and falling backwards right on top of me. Luckily I was ba****ck. Unfortunately, when he rolled left to get up he totally crushed my rib cage, pelvis and punctured my lungs right in front of my son and husband.

I spent the next 17 days at UF in a daze. I had life saving rib bracing surgery and am now the proud mom of 17 metal brackets holding my ribs together in multiple places. It took months to walk, breath & sneeze with out death defying rib pain! Physically I had many challenges •••• I still DO!

But dealing with a broken heart wasn’t something I knew how to heal. How could a horse have almost killed me? I was so devastated and ashamed.

I CHOOSE TO NOT HEAL. To not invest in myself.

I CHOOSE TO PUT MY FAITH IN HELPING MY COMMUNITY.

And y’all I did! For 5 years Twisted Oaks turned from a horse rescue to helping thousands of local owners keep their dogs and cats FUREVER. Our pet pantry started first. Then low cost services shortly behind. I had the time of my life!

But now 5 years after my accident I realize I never once took care of myself. I just kept injecting my hurt feelings in helping others.

WELCOME TO almost 2025.

Yes, Twisted Oaks Rescue is closed. It’s time for me to take a year and HEAL my body, heart and soul. Y’all have been so amazing at helping me to grow as a human. And shine in a way I never dreamed of!

I just wanted y’all to know ••• I truly did it with love in my heart and pain in body. So thank you for loving us! And helping us to heal our life!

YOU WANNA RUN A PET PANTRY?

Twisted Oaks Rescue provided pet resources to lake area pets in crisis. Our goal was simply to keep pets and people together in loving homes and out of shelters & rescues.

We successfully pushed 2,500 pounds of pet food thru our pantry per month (on average). Pet food collection, fundraising, pick-up/delivery & distribution are super time consuming. It’s not just about raising that much pet food month after month but about distributing it in the right hands. (Volunteer time required is a minimum of 25 hrs per week) you will require 2-4 volunteers on distribution days!

Here is how we did it!

55% we put in the direct hands of the public. With the understanding we were providing supplemental pet food to spayed and neutered companion pets in lake area.

30% of our pet food went to other pet pantries, local people food pantries and other local rescues/shelters serving Putnam, Clay & Bradford counties.

15% was fundraised in large quantities for hurricane relief in Florida and emergency preparation services.

In total we pushed 90 tons of pet food through our Keystone Heights pantry.

PLEASE NOTE:

60% was donated directly by local shelters, pet food stores, Veterinary offices, our pet communuty & our local supporting pet rescues.

20% couponed for below $1 per pound.

10% purchased at normal price.

10% sponsored by local businesses.

Wanna run your own pantry? Here are the CORE guidelines we developed for our pet food program. Copy them down and think about why we may have these guidelines in place.

Yes ••• we have been scammed, taken advantage of, stolen from and more. But those people are no reason to not continue to serve the pure hearts out there in need!

HERE ARE THE GUIDELINES

1. This is a temporary, supplemental pet pantry program, intended to help feed and care for your spayed & neutered companion pets during times of crisis.

2. In order to receive pet food & supply benefits you MUST provide proof of spay & neuter services for each family pet.

3. To request an appointment complete the form on the first of each month. In 5-7 business days you will receive an email with your appointment date/time. Please respond with a confirmation email, letting us know you will attend.

4. “No shows” for scheduled appointments will be indicated in our database. We have the right to refuse services to you in the future.

5. Misrepresenting your pet family can lead to a refusal of future services. Breeding, selling puppies for money, selling/returning pet food, disrespect of our private property or volunteers is HIGHLY discouraged.

6. Pet food can be distributed to pet families in a crisis (without spay & neuter proof) one (1) time per year.

7. Pet food benefits are available to each pet family 3 times per year. We are no longer able to offer these services monthly.

OUR LAST FREE SPAY & NEUTER DAY

Hello everyone! Happy Tuesday. We had a full clinic today with 33 local companion cats & dogs at The Humane Society of North Central Florida right in Gainesville off 6th street.

Thank you to all the pet families that came and had patience & so much gratitude today. We love working with our local pet families! We will miss y’all!

But can we shine the spotlight on Jesse the Vet Tech! He is an absolute beacon of light. He is smart, humble & compassionate. He handles all the pets at check in with such grace. Today in particular, he went above & beyond to ensure three dogs were calm and safe after showing aggression/fear.

Why?

One, he loves peoples pets like they are his own and executes with skill because he is a dedicated professional.

Two, he knows how important getting spayed & neutered is•••• he wasn’t going to turn away a fearful animal.

So if you’re reading this Jesse ••• we adore you! Thank you for all of these years of partnership in making sure our community as access to your Pawsome services!

The HSNCF has been sponsoring spay & neuter days, transports and more for over 3 years now. We adore them for allowing us to bring these low cost services to our pet pantry clients and local community!

Stop asking me about taking over Twisted Oaks Rescue! We tried to have folks volunteer and learn! I offered a class on couponing for pet food. I spoke all year long about the STRUGGLE of continuing without more help! More bodies. The physical demands of running clinics and pet food distributions. NO ONE CAME! Some said they would BUT no showed! Stop wasting my time! There are 1000 ways to make a difference! Get out there. Pick one and freaking do it! I’ll root for you the whole time! It’s just ashame you didn’t do the same for me! #rememberbekind
