DID YOU KNOW?

Our friends and partners at The Humane Society of North Central Florida in Gainesville •••• donated our community over 150 absolutely • FREE• spay/neuter surgery & rabies vaccines?

Yes •••• it is TRUE! And it’s not the first time!

Why?

Well, we posted some community pet statistics we were struggling to change. Regarding our communities ability to FIX their pets. We said 40% of the people we work with simply can NOT AFFORD to fix their pets on our other “low cost” spay/neuter programs.

The HSNCF were happy to reach out, meet, and discuss an approach that could change those hard to swallow pet statistics. They helped to educate us and we all worked together and had a Pawsome first surgery day. We sent 32 local dogs and cats to Gainesville for FREE S/N services in October.

Our second surgery date is booked and confirmed! We have 32 more local cats and dogs headed for services in December!

Today, I’m stopping by to bring some hometown L❤️VE from The Bakery in Keystone Heights! I grabbed these yummy cinnamon roll bites! I’m also bringing some donations & hugs!

Thank you to all the fabulous staff at HSNCF •••• you are always KIND •••• we are ALL in this together!

THAT IS 1,200 CATS! 🐈‍⬛ FIXED IN 4 YRS

Thank you to all the amazing pet families that joined us at Twisted Oaks yesterday for our Companion Cat Spay & Neuter Transport!

We have “hosted” this service for our community for four years. It’s every third Wednesday of the month. We coordinate 25 companion cats each month.

The service is sponsored by FIX THEM ALL at www.fixthemall.org $45 (companion cats must be 3 pounds & 3 months) please click apply and select “sheltering hands transport” in Keystone Heights on the bottom of your cats application.

On your appointment day you come to Keystone and our Pawsome partners Sheltering Hands, Inc. send a transport van to us! They pick up and transport all cats. Take them to their beautiful facility in Ocala for spay & neuter services.

This program offers so much for $45 •••• an exam, spay/neuter, rabies vaccine, FVRCP, & a Revolution treatment •••• addressing fleas, ticks, worms and earmites. You CAN opt OUT at clipping their ear on this program.

Come on y’all! These programs are important to the community! 1.2000 cats & kittens is something to celebrate! 🐈‍⬛ 🐈

Believe in your husband’s HARD WORK!

I still remember (2 years ago) crying after working for ••• what seemed like the longest 4 hours of my life. Why? Because, we were trenching in the electrical cables from the power pole to our pet pantry building by hand. I know it was 150 feet or more and the estimate $2,500 to bring the power inside. Not including running the much needed outlets! •••• 💥

Sooo one Saturday my husband, myself and Loki got up early. And with my husband’s lead ••• we argued all the way through it ••• we pulled the wires to the building underground. Loki was a huge help digging :- ) Then a few weeks later we begin wiring & powering outlets.

Why? Because, I wanted to serve my pet communuty that freaking bad AND because, my husband loves me that much. We are blessed but on a budget.

This morning was a great morning yall! Now I punch in a code, open my door and tell Alexa to turn on my lights outside. It’s bright and safe for all the pet families to pull in and drop off for our spay & neuter transports & other early morning/late evening events. The little things in life show us how much we have grown! Tell your husband thanks! They need to hear that too ❤️💯💥

The question isn’t CAN YOU help.

It is WILL you help?

Hi! I’m Jessie Shekels, founder of Twisted Oaks Rescue & owner of Loki’s Lunchbox. I volunteer my time, personal property, and some mental sanity :- ) to keep local pets and people together.

I had an accident with a rescue horse that totally derailed my life in 2019. It made me look at helping my pet community differently. I was severely injured in my accident. Bedrest was making me depressed. So I went out on a limb and I started out fundraising $1,000 dollars from friends and family on FB. I took the money and smartly couponed all of the pet food & supplies we needed to feed 💯 local pet families.

My son Sam and I took orders from local families in need. All from FB posts. We packaged it up in boxes for delivery and hit the road! We delivered our first 1 ton of pet food in my Subaru over a weeks time.

We did this twice. Finally, someone pulled me aside and said “I see you are working really hard to make a difference let me help”. Her idea was fabulous! Make the people come to you instead of driving all over a three county span.

April 2020 we started doing pet food distributions. We started in an empty parking lot close to my house. Then some local businesses invited us to use their space. It just kept growing! Either way we did this for a year before moving the pet food around this much became a problem for me physically. We had donated about 12 TONS of pet food by this point.

My husband, Shawn is a problem solver. He invested about 40k in our pet pantry building & ME. Letting me design it so we could make a drive through concept. And guess what! It was a success! We opened our doors in May 2021. And to date we distributed/donated about 90 tons of pet food & supplies to local pet families in need.

But now we are facing new challenges. Physically I can’t do the pet food anymore. From the fundraising to the pallet pick ups ••• it’s a lot of work to feed 💯 pet families a month. I’m tired.

Many of you in the last 24 hours were shook by the news we are closing! Truth is I need a break to address my back & neck problems. Probably resulting in some surgeries in 2025. The pet food was only part of our services as we also have been running free spay & neuter clinics, Wellness Wednesdays and S/N transports.

Most of you who took the time to reach out want my pet food contracts! Guess what? We don’t have any! We simply fundraised that much pet food each month! And you can too! No one handed me this mission all prepackaged and pretty. I put in my time and built a reputation for doing what I say I will.

If you are TRULY interested in running a pet food pantry text me: 262-623-7331. No you can NOT take mine over. But I’m happy to invest my passion in someone who is willing to work hard. For ZERO dollars. There isn’t a ton of glory and recognition in this. It’s physically challenging. And it takes years to build communuty partners and sponsors.

The question isn’t CAN YOU help.

It is WILL you help?

Have you heard? •••••

Twisted Oaks Rescue will be closing in 2025.

Our founder and primary volunteer, Jessie Shekels, has opted to close for 2025 while receiving treatment/surgery for a serious back and neck injury.

We will NOT be continuing to offer low cost wellness clinics on-site or pet pantry services in Keystone Heights FL.

To those of you canceling your appointments •••• saying you will catch up with us next month •••• please know this is NOT POSSIBLE. The last wellness clinic and free spay and neuter day is on December 9th! Period.

PLEASE NOTE: WE ARE FULL AT THIS TIME!

Thank you all for your support over the last 5 years! As a team, we made a huge difference in the lives of local pet families. We are forever grateful for the opportunity to serve our lake area pet community!

Happy Weekend Y’all!

This is my son Samuel. Many of you have known him about 5 years. He is turning 13 in January. He was raised volunteering his time to our pet community. As well as watching our family give with an open heart while fostering and rehabbing pets!

He is a kind boy and I so look forward to watching him blossom as he ages. I know he is a good kid. My mamma heart is always silently proud of him. Just wanted y’all to know too 💯❤️✔️🐾

🖤 L•O•K•I 🖤 U•P•D•A•T•E 🖤

If you have been following our story, you know we faced some struggles with our best buddy Loki. So many of you in the community have reached out to check on Loki ••• we thought proper to do another positive update!

Loki weighed in at 61.6 pounds yesterday. Every week making gains in weight, energy and muscle mass. He was diagnosed with EPI. Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, is a digestive disorder in dogs that occurs when the pancreas doesn't produce enough digestive enzymes.

By simply sprinkling in these enzymes on his kibble he has made leaps and bounds in recovery. Loki still receives weekly B12 injections and is on a special diet to give him the best possible nutrition for his disorder.

Thank you for being so KIND.. Acknowledging my dog as an important member of my family proves why I love our pet community so much. Y’all get it. He is on the mend! ❤️‍🩹

A big thanks to our favorite Vet! The Veterinary Center at Hunter's Crossing and Dr. Lexi Brandenburg. 💜
