Gina McGee, have competed successfully in the NRHA Non-Pro Division, winning multiple NRHA Championships and Reserve NRHA Championships, qualifying numerous horses in NRHA Aged Event Finals and placing in the Top 5, as well as placing Top 5 at the All American Quarter Horse Congress numerous times. Here at McGee Farms Performance Horses, we take pride in developing, training and showing world class reining horses. We believe in "Mare Power" and we are home to some of the best bred mares in the industry, including ANNE GET YOUR GUNNER, MISS WHIZARIMA, DOWNUNDER DIVA, SINFULLY SMART and many more. Most of our mares are proven either in the show pen or with producing earnings. In addition to our strong Broodmare Program, we stand at stud a favorite in the NRHA industry, WHIZKEY ON THE ROCKS, a 2009 Buckskin Stallion by NRHA Hall of Fame Sire, Topsail Whiz, out of NRHA Hall of Fame Dam, Princess In Diamonds. Congratulations to Dan Yarbrough and Heza Dirt Slinger marking a 146 which was the highest score of the open futurity and winning the Levels 2 & 1 of the McGee Farms Open Futurity at the SERHA Spooktacular.

Johnny was bred by McGee Farms and sold to the Yarbrough Family as a coming yearling. Johnny is sired by Gunnatrashya out of our dam, Covergirl Chic (Smart Chic Olena).

We wish them the best of luck at the NRHA Futurity!

I do not like to share what we do for our community, but I am now because we as a horse community need to step up and help where you can. No amount is too small. This organization is doing the leg work for us, all I did was provide the hay for these livestock in WNC that will STARVE if they don’t get the supplies. It is going fast so they need a steady supply. The Timothy/Orchard bales are 800lbs @ $160 per bale. Contact Amanda with Southern Patriot Farms via FB to coordinate what you can do.

WELCOME BACK!!!

This post is long overdue, but we are excited to announce that after a long 7 years, Deon Locke has returned to the US from his native country of Australia and has accepted the position of Resident Reining Trainer at McGee Farms Performance Horses. We can’t begin to tell you how fortunate we are to have Deon back here with us and we look forward to training and learning from one of the best in the industry. Deon has been back with us since mid May and hasn’t slowed down since arriving. We’ve already been to two shows, with the latest being NARS. Deon was mounted on two great Derby horses and didn’t come up empty handed winning close to $3,000 aboard Silver Gun Voodoo and Voodoo Whiz!

Deon/Voodoo Whiz’s next stop is the NARS Derby in Tulsa and we can’t wait to cheer this team on.

Please help us give Deon a huge welcome back from our Reining family!!!

After 2 years, this dynamic duo made their way back together in the show pen!!!The last time David showed Knaughtybyknature was the NRHA Derby 2020 when he officially retired himself from showing Atlas…or so we thought! After seeing the money 💰 up for grabs in yesterday’s NARS non-pro maturity class running concurrent with ancillary and SEARC classes, it was a last minute (forced by Gina) decision 😝 to sign David and Atlas up for the Maturity. It did not disappoint and with less than 90 minutes total to prepare, they marked a 217.5 with a half point penalty per judge to secure 3rd place 🥉 in the Non-Pro Levels 4 & 3, Non-Pro & SEARC Non-Pro, as well as Reserve Champion in all 3 PT classes, earning close $5,000 bringing Atlas’ LTE earnings to over $70,000. This horse LOVES to walk in that pen and show off. Thank you Lyla for all the hard work getting him ready for David…😜. Now let’s go get the High Point Rookie prize on Friday. Our Story

David and Gina McGee founded McGee Farms Performance Horses in 2011 after their passion for the reining horse industry. The McGee's purchased their first reining horse in 2008 and David began showing the next year. It did not take long before they were "hooked" by the reining bug. David made his debut "Rookie of the Year" run in 2010 and qualified all 3 of his Rookie horses (Chics Need Money, Peppy Badger Chick and Ridin On Spinners) to compete in the Southeastern Affiliate Finals. 2 of the 3 horses (Chics Need Money and Peppy Badger Chick) qualified to go on to Oklahoma for the National Rookie of the Year. In 2011, David qualified his 8 year old Shining Spark mare, Shine On Retsina, to compete in the Southeastern Affiliate Finals and placed 3rd to be eligible to go on to Nationals. After 2 outstanding runs, David and Sparkles ended up with a 4th place Non-Pro and 5th place Intermediate and Limited Non-Pro National runs. Gina made her debut "Rookie of the Year" run in 2011 and qualified both of her Rookie horses (Chics N Salsa and Ridin On Spinners) to compete in the Southeastern Affiliate Finals. Her 4 year old mare, Chics N Salsa, qualified to go on to Oklahoma for the National Rookie of the Year and placed 19th in the Nation. In 2010, the McGee's began construction of a premier reining facility that would include a 300'x150' covered riding arena with special footing for reiners and an adjacent 150'x75' climate controlled 18 stall show barn. The riding arena was completed by the spring of 2011 and the barn was completed by the Spring of 2012. Our focus is to breed or obtain the best horses reining industry has to offer in order to be competitive at the top levels. So far we have accomplished those goals with David currently sitting 10th in the Nation in the 2019 Non-Pro Rankings!!!
