🐷🧡 Our biggest need at the sanctuary right now? Pig grain!
With so many hungry mouths to feed, keeping our shelves stocked is a daily challenge—and we could really use your help!

We’ve added our most-needed items to our Chewy Wishlist, where you can purchase pig grain and have it sent directly to the sanctuary. It’s one of the easiest (and most appreciated!) ways to support the animals.

❤️ ROOSTER'S STORY ❤️

A kind-hearted visitor approached us at an event to tell us about Rooster, a mini donkey he had met while working on a job site months earlier. Rooster had been living alone in a stall for the past seven years after losing his only companion, and it was clear he was deeply lonely and depressed. Wanting to help, we reached out to his owner and asked if they would consider surrendering him to a sanctuary where he could live out the rest of his life surrounded by love and companionship. After a few days of thought, they agreed!

We hitched up our mini horse trailer and set out to bring Rooster home. The entire ride back, he trembled like a leaf, leaving behind the only life he had ever known. When he arrived at the sanctuary, the sights, sounds, and movement of the farm overwhelmed him—it was a stark contrast to the years of solitude he had endured. But in time, Rooster’s curiosity got the best of him. Before we knew it, he was sneaking under fences just to be near the horses.

Rooster had never received veterinary care, and our team quickly discovered that his teeth had been severely neglected. Overgrown and sharp, they had caused painful ulcers in his mouth, making every bite of food agonizing. We immediately scheduled dental work, and once he was pain-free, he seemed like a new donkey. His eyes brightened, his energy returned, and his true personality began to shine.

Feeling stronger and more confident, Rooster was introduced to the herd a little earlier than planned—and he wasted no time making friends. He quickly bonded with our largest horse, Zeus! They have been inseparable ever since! Rooster absolutely loves to have snuggles with his human family, he has become such a beautiful part of Rewild and everyone who meets him!

Saturday was a long overdue but incredibly productive day at the sanctuary! For two years, old wood and junk had been piling up on a section of our property—made worse by rain, wind, and the never-ending cycle of clutter. But today? We took action.

With a vision to build a much-needed medical barn for intake quarantine and emergencies, we knew it was time to clear the space. Two truckloads of old wood hauled to the dump, countless hours of cleaning and organizing, and so much progress later—we’re finally seeing the transformation take shape!

There’s still more work to do, but WOW, does it feel good to make this dream a reality. This will be an amazing space one day for the animals who will need this space to heal! 🙏

Because of your generosity, we raised an incredible $2,000 in the Kitsap Great Give yesterday! This is enough to cover Penny's emergency colic vet bills from the past 2 weeks, and hoof trims for all of the horses on Friday! 🎉

I told Paisley the news that we have raised an incredible $1400 so far! This is enough to cover Penny’s $1300 emergency vet bill from last week! If we can get to $2000 we can cover the horses hoof trims on Friday!

Since relocating to Kingston and founding Rewild Refuge in 2022, we have been embraced by an incredible community—one that has shown us kindness, support, and a shared love for animals in need. We are endlessly grateful to call the Kitsap Peninsula home.

A few members of our animal care team were busy at the sanctuary today! Thank you to Amy for flawlessly cleaning our feed room, and Greg, Kelly and Mica for tackling the pigs bedrooms - even if they immediately brought hay into their rooms and dragged their clean blankets back out 🤣 Little rascals 🐷

It was a quiet, rainy Sunday at the sanctuary ❤️🌧️

The pigs spent the day snuggled in their warm blankets and Paisley enjoyed a nap in the pigs room to escape the rain.

We’ve been monitoring Penny this weekend and this scene made me laugh…Moose could smell her grain mash and thought maybe she’d share but Penny has never enjoyed being bothered while she’s eating 😂

She is in good spirits, she was even playing with the hose earlier which is one of her favorite playtime activities. We aren’t 100% out of the woods yet, but this is the happiest I’ve seen her since Thursday! 🙏🥰🫶🏼
