Update - Soft Landing Found. ❤️
Have you always wanted a Fjord? Read on and please, please share. She needs a very special home of her own.
We’ve been asked to take a lovely little Fjiord into lifetime sanctuary at Tomten. Before you say we should, please know that while we would absolutely love to help her and be the soft landing she deserves, but we have just taken in three equids in four months and we have still not met our recurring monthly donor goal (we have 73 left to go). Oh no.
Responsible rescue and lifetime stewardship means we must carefully evaluate every situation, the lifetime cost of each animal, the daily time commitment they need, the available space here on the farm, our current staff and volunteer resources and the funding we receive, just to name a few considerations.
We truly hate to say no to this mare and have given it some serious thought, but we realize yes is not possible right now (or in every scenario) no matter how much we wish it so. We would if we could and should our available resources suddenly change so would our answer.
But, we can help and we can share this beautiful mare out and we so hope that you will too. It doesn’t cost a thing to help her find a new home and together, just maybe, we can seriously increase her visibility and get her in front the right people, someone(s) who can be her forever family.
Please note, the information below is from a teacher who cares for her deeply. We have not met this mare personally however, should you have questions, please reach out to her directly at [email protected]
Here are the details.
Breed- Fjord
Gender- mare
Height- 13.3
Age- 20
Reason for rehoming - this mare was part of a local high school animal science program that is closing its program due to lack of available veterinary care. (The vet shortage in this area is very, very real)
Training - while she was originally a “tough cookie”, this mare is safe on the ground and quoted as “being a doll to work with”. She has some introductory driving training but cannot be ridden.
Special Needs- she is predisposed to laminitis and cannot be on grass. While she has not had an episode/flareup in four years, her feet require special care. Currently she gets meds, wears boots and eats from a slow feeder hay bag. She is not a candidate for pasture turnout.
This beautiful mare has given her all to ten years of children teaching compassion, commitment and skill. She deserves a home that will give her all that she needs for the rest of her days. Please, if you can, share her out and together let’s find her a soft landing and happily ever after.
