We’ve had a good turnout each week for the Tuesday farm stand. This week we have collard greens and kale, basil, parsley, chocolate mint, cherry and plum tomatoes, jalapeño peppers, cucumbers, carrots, turnips and the last of the potatoes. Special thanks to farmer Rich Schiafo for providing us with all the carrots and potatoes and a lot of excellent tomatoes for this season.

From our friends at The Kingston Land Trust:
Happy Spring! We'll be reaching out again soon with some updates and upcoming KLT land stewardship volunteer days, but for now I just want to let you know about a volunteer work day tomorrow at the South Pine St Community Garden (27 South Pine St) from 11-2pm. It will be a light work day with Joel and Trish, who have been stewards of the garden for several years. If you can't make it tomorrow but still want to lend a hand, there will also be work days at the garden the following Saturdays.

Please email Joel at [email protected] if you are interested in joining the work day tomorrow.

The updated forecast for yet another growing season at the garden is currently looking more hopeful than before, although no definite decision will be reached until early spring. We currently are seeking assistance with harvesting/preparing for and helping out with running the farm stand. The general workload and the fruits of labor alike will be shared equally by each individual farmer at the farm stand on a given open farm day.

For what looks to be the final season of the South Pine Street City Farm we are continuing this year with the community garden theme that was started in 2020. The purpose of this initiative being to share with local gardeners in need of the space to be proactive in growing their own food. If by chance we continue there another season then we shall gladly go on working with The Kingston Land Trust in support of this most worthwhile local agricultural mission.
