🦟 Lyme disease is a vector-borne bacterial infection caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi. The blacklegged tick (i.e., deer tick) is the primary Lyme disease carrier, and can be found throughout many areas. The disease is transmitted when an infected blacklegged tick attaches and feeds on a warm-blooded mammal, including dogs, horses, and humans.

The bacteria enter the general circulation and trigger chronic health issues, including joint swelling and inflammation, heart damage, kidney failure, and neurologic problems. 🐭🐾 Pet owners, be aware of the dangers of rodenticides!

🚫 These products are highly toxic to domestic animals and can cause internal bleeding in cats and dogs if ingested. Most rodenticides work by inhibiting the rodent’s ability to clot blood, but they can also harm pets.

👀 Look out for symptoms such as lethargy and pale gums and contact your veterinarian immediately if you suspect your pet has ingested rat or mouse poison.

Does your pup have a lump? Did you know there is now a noninvasive way to scan your dog’s lump to see the likelihood of it being cancerous? Previously, we would need to do what is called a fine needle asperous, when we take a needle and poke the lump several times to collect the cells. We would take the collected cells and send them to a lab for testing, and results would take days. Now we can scan the lump, if the scan comes back abnormal, we could then conduct additional diagnostics. We love the HT Vista because it is noninvasive, and we get results within minutes. 🐾 Did you know that heartworms can grow up to 12 inches or longer inside a dog's heart and lungs?

😢 Several hundred worms can inhabit a single dog, causing inflammation and scarring in the vessels supplying lung tissue. Over time, this can lead to heart failure. Initially, most dogs don't exhibit any symptoms, but as their condition worsens, they may experience coughing, panting, exercise intolerance, weight loss, and fluid accumulation in the abdomen or chest. 🦊 Canine distemper is a viral infection that can be deadly for dogs, particularly puppies and unvaccinated dogs. The virus can also infect foxes, wolves, coyotes, skunks, and raccoons.

Distemper is spread through aerosolized droplets from an infected animal or contaminated objects. The virus can attack the respiratory, gastrointestinal, and nervous systems, leading to symptoms such as fever, nasal discharge, coughing, lethargy, and vomiting.
