💓Blue and Arrow are finally ❤️after 213 days at the shelter!
These two came in together, along with a third , Harmony, after our Humane Law Enforcement officers removed them from a Saugerties home where they were found with no food or water and suffering from general neglect - hair loss, raw skin, overgrown nails and live fleas crawling on them. All three were friendly with people and dogs, and we were able to partner with Animal Farm Foundation for Harmony to transfer to them as we were over-capacity.
Blue and Arrow recovered from their skin issues, but they also had several lumps and bumps, some of which were growing. We biopsied Arrow's first and unfortunately, she had . We removed several masses in our clinic, giving her a greater chance for a longer life with her buddy, Blue. It's likely to return at some point, but right now she's feeling good and clear! But then it was Blue's turn. He also has cancerous masses and is scheduled for surgery in our clinic also, with the goal to do the same for him. These two are both almost 10 years old, but they still have some living to do and we're going to give them the best chance to do that, together, that we can.
But then, out of the blue (pun intended 😉), along came their adopter, who saw a photo of them together and wanted to make sure they stayed that way. Knowingly adopting not just one, but two senior dogs with cancer takes a rare , and we were sure there might be some reconsideration once we shared that news. But that only made them want to adopt them even more!
Blue and Arrow had so many potential roadblocks to adoption - age, medical conditions and, sadly, even their breed. But now, after waiting so very long, they are together still, in their , snuggling on a single bed just like they did in their kennel here. We all love them, and we will miss them dearly. But it's incredibly for us to know these two, who are not , but instead will be . Congratulations Blue & Arrow! 💓 The Dodo
