ITS KITTEN SEASON!
Our friends at the UCSPCA have some helpful tips if you find yourself in this situation.

Yesterday was the first day of spring, which means its the season of new life - including kittens!

We've already had some foundling kittens brought into us this week, so it's a great time to SHARE the word about what to do if you find kittens outside. Always be sure to watch for mama cat - she might be away for a few hours hunting, but most of the time, she will be back. It's VERY important not to take newborn kittens away from their mama! We know everyone means well and wants to see the kittens take care of, and that's WHY it is important for the kittens to stay with mama for as long as possible, to increase their chances of survival. Very young kittens should only be raised by humans if mama cat is not able to do so herself. So if you find kittens, leave them where they are and watch for mama to come back before taking care of them yourself or bringing them to the Ulster County SPCA.

If mama cat doesn't come back, we can offer support and supplies for the care of kittens until they are old enough to come into the shelter. Kittens need around-the-clock care, making it a very big commitment! We are always looking for kitten fosters for the season, which requires an online orientation and training. WE HAVE WOOF PUPSICLES! You probably have seen the ads everywhere for these, and Yes! they are amazing! What sets them apart from other treat dispensing toys is that not only are they super durable, they screw open and closed easily-making it much easier to clean! You can buy refills, or buy a tray and fill it with any healthy treat and freeze: yogurt, pet safe peanut butter, Bone broth, or even canned wet food!
