A classic Laureles Division sight: crossing a Huisache Pasture herd over the Long Bridge.

Yesterday likely marks the final push of a full-size herd over the bridge. Laureles is also home to King Ranch’s South TX farm, where cropland expansions will eventually include the Huisache.

Weaning foals is the process of gradually removing them from the mare and transitioning them to a diet that does not rely solely on milk. Typically, weaning occurs when the foals are around four to six months old. It involves separating the mare and foal into separate pastures or stalls to reduce their physical and emotional dependence on each other. Weaning can be a stressful time for both the foals and their mothers, so it is important to provide them with a supportive environment and closely monitor their well-being during this transitional phase.

Read about King Ranch's Triple Crown winner, ASSAULT. He was a little smaller than most horses, and survived an injury. His grit and determination carried him to being the only Texas born and bred horse to win the Triple Crown. Reminds us of another horse.
