Our Story

We are a full service small animal hospital, providing high quality pet surgery, dentistry, radiology, boarding, hospitalization and preventive health care services for dogs and cats. We serve the Kirkland, Redmond, Bellevue, and Woodinville communities.

Formerly called Totem Lake Critter Doctor, Critter Doctor Animal Hospital started in the mid-1980’s on 124th street in Kirkland. Dr Wendy Bernstein bought the clinic from the original owner in 1996 and operated a successful practice for years before realizing that she would need more room to expand the hospital's services.

After months and months of searching, Dr. Bernstein finally found a perfect new location: a free-standing building with plenty of parking and room to expand. She then built our brand-new Kirkland veterinary facility from the interior struts up and opened what is now our full-service veterinary hospital.

In May of 2018, Dr. Bernstein sold the practice to Wellhaven Pet Health, an Animal Hospital group formed by Veterinarians who believed Veterinarians should be able to focus on practicing Medicine rather than also bearing the load of running the business. We are happy to be a part of the Wellhaven Pet Health group as it allows us to continue to serve our beloved client base with top-notch service and up-to-date care techniques.
